Star Wars: The Force Awakens (Pre-release)

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

Actually, I think they are pretty deep into all aspects of production. If you read the press release from LucasFilm regarding JJ and Kasdan taking over screenwriting and all the other people named, it seems clear a lot is happening. I bet most major casting is done, they are just waiting to make those announcements.

That'd be nice. But if they're doing practical f/x, how exactly would they be doing it without a story? I mean, I expect some design work can happen independently of having an actual script, but there's a LOT that depends on the script itself, no?

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

Yeah, but we are making a lot of assumptions. The only real information we have is that last press release as to the status of production. We know JJ has intimated he would like to use sone practical effects but have no concept if what that means. 10% of visual effects? 50%? But fandom abhors a vacuum.. :)

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

From Bleeding Cool yesterday:
There were whispers – rooted more in speculation than anything else, I expect – that JJ Abrams and Lawrence Kasdan would be throwing out the plot that Michael Arndt had been working with. In cross-checking this casting call with my sources, I’ve confirmed that, actually, the same story – at least as much as it might boil down to a synopsis – will still be in play; the same characters are being sought as several months ago.

Abrams and Kasdan appear to be reworking the flow a little, and will do some dialogue and character work, for sure, but the building blocks of story are staying pretty much untouched. Well… that’s a bit of a relief, I guess.

That sounds pretty positive.....for a rumour

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

Sorry, but i'm loving the fact there's no news. I don't wanna see 90% of all characters, ships, settings, plot, etc, before the movie is out. If they can keep it under wraps until release it'd be a miracle, but I really hope they can get close. I think that's part of what hurt the PT is having way to much info out way ahead of time.

Like I said before. It seems a lot of the panic is looking for news where they can't find any so they have to make up whatever they can.

Agreed on this. I like not knowing. I just find it difficult to believe they can get it all done in time for a 2015 release. I mean, maybe they can, but it seems like they're kinda far behind the 8-ball at this point, no?

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

We really have no idea where they are. So you like not knowing but still want to know, you're conflicted, Dan. :)

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

So much circulating on the net is hearsay. Disney is famous for being able to do things well under the radar. I'm sure there were certain aspects of the production they knew they were going to need and got started on that stuff right away. Any of these rumors or last minute appearance of details are probably things were are only first hearing about, but have been rolling for some time.

If there's any company who has the capacity and capital to move mountains it's Disney. I'm sure they are sparing no expense in getting everything the production needs in a timely fashion for JJ and crew.

I'm sure we'll be hearing something official and significant very soon. It's just been a crappy waiting time since we all first heard these were going to be made.

Eh, not really. I'm ok with it NOT being in 2015. My concern is that they don't rush just to hit a deadline, but rather focus on making sure the end product is top-notch. Too much with the "Star Wars" brand has been rushed to market in a half-baked form.

Like what? And I agree with Nien above, Disney is motivated to deliver a quality product on their time schedule and has sufficient resources to get that done.

Was it rushed or just crappy? Honestly they could have taken forty five years to make the prequels and they probably still would've sucked. :lol

They probably would have been way worse after 45 years. Just think how much unnecessary crap would have been added or changed by Lucas.I love the guy but restriction seems to have helped make the OT better.

Actually, I was referring more to a lot of the computer games they made over the years. That was where I noticed it the most. They'd kick stuff out the door too early to make sure it coincided with some DVD release, and the product would be buggy, or half finished, or just really mediocre.

Much of the stuff in the early 2000s was mediocre quality. I know the films are the flagship of the franchise, but I'd just prefer to see them do it RIGHT rather than do it FAST.

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

Well that goes a long way to putting to rest the fear that they are severely behind the eight ball in regards to the screenplay.

But that applies to a lot of video games, not just Star Wars, just kick the stuff out the door by some arbitrary date and they'll just patch it on release day. Or, let's make a crappy video game to tie in with X movie just to have a game out to make a few extra bucks.

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

Star Wars films have never been rushed or short cutted arguably since ANH. They have been entiry the vision of one man, under his production and funding and timetable. FYI, Bob Iger will be in CNBC today after their earnings release and might make done mention. He will certainly mention the Marvel/Netflix deal.
