Star Wars: The Force Awakens (Pre-release)

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

If true, I'm very glad to hear that casting is taking place in the UK. The fewer "Hollywood' types the better.

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

I wish they'd just do the novel based Fiction with Kyle Kataarn, I'm hoping they'll at least include Mara Jade in it.

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

Don't hold your breath. I doubt they'll retread what's already been done.

Nor should they. I don't understand why fans if the franchise would want to tie down the creative team developing this story to previous EU novels. JJ's adapted a previous Trek film, not Imzadi or some other Trek novel drivel.

Everyone already knows what you think about the EU. There is no need to thread on and on about it.

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

I love the EU, I am reading Dawn if the Jedi right now. I just find it creatively uninspiring to simply take EU stories and base the films on that. What a missed opportunity that would be. Some characters or situations? Sure if they serve the story but don't you want to see something new?

Perhaps because the latest news is a ton of speculation that the Solo kids from the EU are being cast?

I, for one, do. The EU's fine, but this is also why I kinda wanted them to kick the story WAY into the future of the universe and sidestep all the retconning altogether. That's not happening, though, so I guess the EU gets nuked.

Amen to that. Hearing English accents in Star Wars again is another step (back) in the right direction. Though, really, I could be wrong since the English accents were the Empire which, in theory, doesn't exist in this upcoming film, so...

I don't think speech patterns evolve that quickly just because of a political shift ;)

That's very true, though I think the principal reasoning behind using the English for the Imperial roles was simply a trick to make them separate and distinct from the Rebels, i.e. making it easier to identify the "bad guys". It should be asked, though, since everyone was from the same republic, why didn't everyone have the same accent??

But, they did evolve, or rather de-volve, in the prequels. I don't recall any English accents at all. There were some Australian accents in there, albeit toned down in some cases, but none were English that I remember.

Same reason they people living in Texas have a different accent from me, and we're in a much smaller republic ;) :lol

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

I don't know why people assume the EU is getting nuked because no one has heard anything either way. You're not getting EU stories, so chill. Having an EU character or two in the movies is the least you should be worried about.

The British accent isn't necessarily to make them the bad guys. Whether you like the EU or not, that's supposed to be the accent of the Core worlds, like Coruscant, or the Senate. That's why Lucas had Leia do the fake British accent and Padme attempt to do it as Queen.

Ah, I've never heard it explained that way. And I wasn't aware Leia ever spoke with an English accent...:confused And Padme's attempt was horrendous.

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

I heard the same explanation, and You hear Leia speak with some sort of accent when she is speaking to Tarkin......

If we can mix "English" with "British" there were some:

Qui-Gon
Obi Wan
Palpatine
