It's not that hard, really, once you realize that you're chasing an ideal that cannot and will not be achieved. Plus, for me at least, bad subsequent entries ruin my enjoyment of past entries, so now I just don't bother if I'm worried it might suck. I love the Indy films, so I wasn't about to let Indiana Jones and the Jar Jar of the Jar Jar Jar Jar ruin my enjoyment of those other films. I'd had enough disappointment from the prequels to just...not bother.
As for not buying the blu-rays...hell, that's easy. I've already got the 2006 DVDs, and seeing as how everything else is just special edition crap from 1080p masters that have never really been done properly, it's pretty easy to say "Nah. I'll keep my money, thanks." The 2004 DVDs were disappointing enough in terms of quality, and from what I heard, the blu-rays fixed some stuff, but broke other stuff. Besides, I really only watch Star Wars (as in ANH) once a year anymore, and watching it on the crappy LD rips only further hardens my resolve NOT to buy the blu-rays. So, until they get it right AND give me an archival version of the OOT, why bother?
Now, all that said, I'll keep an ear out for what ends up happenign with this project, and probably will give it a month or so after release to see what the word of mouth is -- much like I did with KOTCS. If it sounds like what I heard after that, I'll skip it. If it's generally pretty positive, I may go see it, since my once expansive fandom has now hardened to only being a fan of the OOT that I grew up with, and largely dismissing most other Star Wars product, with a few exceptions. The brand has really been tarnished for me, but in some ways that may help Ep. VII, since it has nowhere to go but up for me. That said, the notion of "And look who ELSE is back! Yaaay!" makes me think I'll skip it.
