Star Wars: The Force Awakens (Pre-release)

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

Since this is in Disney’s hands, I’m going to miss the Fox fanfare at the start of the film. For me as a kid, the 20th Century Fox opening was always a part of the Star Wars movies.

Maybe Disney will create a brand new introduction that, while not exactly the same thing, would be more in tune to the fan fare than the Disney logo. If I was in charge over at Disney, that is what I would do.

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

Also, for going toe to toe I think with the concept of Jedi from the OT absolutely. The PT turned them into superheroes though so it makes it far less likely.

I'm not so sure I agree with you. I think a PT Jedi would be exceptionally easy to defeat. After all, they appear to be trained to only swing at another lightsaber and not their actual opponent. Any attack that actually went for the body...well, they just wouldn't know how to handle it. :lol

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

Fair point, but it would be a little too coincidental for someone who is strong with the force to take the path of the Jedi (construct a specifically Jedi weapon, use the powers in that way) without affiliation with any order.

I don't think they were superheroes at all. In fact before the Prequels came out Lucas said that the Jedi we saw in the OT where old, in hiding, and a kid that was just trained. He said we never saw true Jedi fighting. So whatever you inferred from the OT was wrong since that's not how he intended a Jedi in their prime to operate. I think they set a good balance compared to some of the SW games like The Force Unleashed.

They also set limits though I don't think Lucas ever made the docs public. Lucas told them how many people a Jedi could take on, how many battledroids, how far they could jump, how far the could run using Force speed (the game call it that, don't know what Lucas does), etc. We even see Luke using the Force to jump in ESB in the carbon freezing chamber. The biggest "Force Jump" we see was maybe 40 feet when Obi Wan jumps back onto the platform in TPM. I don't think that's that crazy. Luke uses the Force to stop his fall from the AT-AT, presumably since that was a big fall. If you want to talk superhero, let's start at Vader strangling someone on a completely different ship in space.

Calling BS on this one. It's all over the map especially from film to film.

Here you make a fair point, but in the OT these feats were very feats and far between. In the PT it's like "we get it, they're supposed to be superhuman".

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

Considering how idiotically stupid the Jedi were in the Prequels, I'd like to see some Jedi who are actually wise in this new trilogy. Plus, I'd like them to use their powers only when in service to the story, or only if it's their characters last resort.

There's something really satisfying seeing our hero's hold back, so that when they do unleash their power, it really feels worth the wait.

Can't argue there! I don't need big action in every scene, give me a good story that warrants the action!

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

Maybe we will learn about light midichlorians and dark midichlorians. You know, like good cholesterol and bad cholesterol.

The Midichlorians Strike Back.... then Return of the Midichlorians... The Phantom Midichlorian, Revenge of the Midichlorians... Attack of the Midi... well, you get it :lol

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

I REALLY hope they leave that crap out, just ignore it like Luke never learned about them, and the sparkly ghosts forgot to mention it...:lol

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

I just saw a little news blurb that said the new Star Wars 'Films' will be stand-alone stories based on specific characters.

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

I look forward to collecting affordable props from SW 7,8 and 9...

:lol

Thus far my Star Wars collection has always been an OT only one. If these new films are any good I'm going to need a new house for all the stuff! :D

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

Just realized something...

You know how some people complain that all the threads in the costume section are Iron Man, etc?

Get ready for EVERYTHING here to be Star Wars again! :lol

Agree! ButI wouldn't call it holding back. I always saw the Jedi very much as Samurai / Knights. They've all developed some degree of strength in the force, kind of like a martial artists gains prowess through training. BUT...there are HUGE variations in skill level from beginner to teacher to master. Not all Jedi would have the ability to do insane things. In fact, very few would. It should take the highest form of mastery to say, lift an X-wing and move it. That even tired Yoda out. It's not some party trick. Some would be able to perform incredible feats, but it should drain them, weaken them. They are not superheroes. Those with training and strength enough to perform the extraordinary would also have the wisdom to do so sparingly as they'd know the strain it would place on them. Their skills would make them formidable warriors of course, but they'd fight just like any other warrior, only better. And if the need arose to force push 20 stormtroopers or leap 30 feet they might be able to do it but be exhausted afterward unless they were advanced masters.
