Star Wars: The Force Awakens (Pre-release)

Then its time to leave the thread and go dark. Its inevitable that at some point with the premieres coming up and previews in December that something is going to leak within such a short time scale. I would also image we'll also get some heavy TV tie ins with the build up as well, like Spectre and the Harry Potter series. The Japanese trailer has got huge coverage out of nowhere today and I dare say BB8 toy sales will rocket there based on just how cute the robot is in it.

this reminds me when episode 2 came out. i was with my friend and his family in disney world on vacation. first time i ever went to disney, well we ended up getting tickets for opening day of episode 2. the day before the movie premiere we went to the star wars sections, i got to see the speeders and big ATAT walker, went on star tours and hit up the gift shop. my friend and I were heavily collecting figures back then and saw a new jango. so we bought them

we get back to the hotel that night and he decides to crack his open, and the damn head fell off.. we were like the the hell now we are going to have to go back and exchange it.. and we released there was a magnet on the neck! when we both saw the magnet we looked at each other like "NO WAY"

the following morning we went to see episode 2 and sure enough.. lol

so i know where your coming from

Well if you're going to find out a spoiler, this is about the cooest way I've ever heard it happening.

Here's another one from Dave Grohl himself (my cousin dated him for a few years, weird I know.) He said when he was waiting in line to see "RotJ" on opening day, some guys drove around the parking lot in a Jeep screaming "Yoda dies!!!!"

This was the most we've heard BB-8 "talk". Does he sound the same or different from what we have heard before? I thought he sounded cat-like which I hadn't thought before, so I'm curious about others impressions.

That's hilarious....even though it was total dick move. :lol

Don't really like he melted look. I always assumed Vader's helmet was metal. Just burning in a fire wouldn't melt it like that, unless something else happened to it after the cremation scene?

After all the helmet was supposed to protect his head in battle from sabers and laser blasts. i would assume it would be made of a very tough metal that would not melt in a bonfire.
i think it would have looked better charred rather than melted.
But i am sure if the movie is good it won't be a deal breaker :)
I never quite got how if he turned good in the end why didn't he simply disappear just like old Ben?

That TIE Fighter shot definitely needs The Doors song The End playing over it.

LOL omg thats so sad!! you know i don't want to sound like a 1 upper but i think this story is real funny. my friend enlists in the army and we find out he's going to Afghanistan ( not the same friend i went to disney with) so the last weekend he's home we hit up a movie, i believe it was the Italian job. we see the movie and when we come out there is a TON of kids, with their parents, the place was packed you couldn't breath. it was Finding Nemo's opening day all we wanted to do was leave the theater but we couldn't because the group wasn't moving.. so now my friend who is more open then i am starts getting angry..

while we are dodging through people, and stepping over kids he loudly says "yeah i really liked the movie, sucks that finding nemo dies" (his exact words) all you heard was a giant gasp and then couple of parents called him a A-hole. LOL to this day we always talk about this, once u said that about yoda it instantly trigger finding nemo lol

ok I'm done with off topic stories sorry :(

the bb8 on stage really sounded different, but i think maybe because the stage bb8 had his sound effects through a PA system

Composite plastics and stuff like carbon fiber can be much stronger then steel even in our world and a lot lighter and far easier to mold into shapes.

Eh, metals melt. For all we know, maybe Luke "enhanced" and accelerated the flames a bit...

Sure...I mean these are all possibilities. I guess it boils partially down to aesthetics. I just think it would look cooler to have a charred helmet with bare metal showing through or what have you rather than it being melted. I mean it's Vader's helmet! It shouldn't melt. It should be impervious to high heat seeing as it is armor for protecting against sabers and lasers, etc.

With regard to the international trailer- I thought it was better than the North American version. Like others I especially liked the TIES in the sunset. And Chewbacca blowing ****** up. Very cool.

Yeah, I think you're exactly right. I think they wanted to evoke and emphasize the "skull-like" qualities of the helmet.

There's a difference between coming in brief contact with a heat source and being in the middle or one for a prolonged period of time. It's sort of like fire walking, a person (because of various aspects of physics) can walk over a bed of hot coals with no problems but if they stopped and just stood there on the coals they'd burn their feet. I know it's not exactly an apples to apple comparison but I think you get my meaning.

OK some facts:

Maximum temp. of wood bonfire: 1100 degrees C (Keep in mind has to be perfect conditions like super dry wood, etc.)

Iron Melting Point: 1578 C
Steel Melting Point: 1510 C
Titanium: 1668 C

I am thinking Vader's helmet would have been made of some kind of titanium type material. So, too big of heat gap for it to melt in a fire even if you leave it in there for a long time. I personally have put rods of Iron in fires for a long time and they don't melt like that. But I suppose if you hit them with a hammer like a blacksmith you could shape them.

Earthbound physics just don't really apply to the Star Wars Universe. The burning temp of Endor redwoods are the least of it!

A long time ago in a galaxy far far away....... ;)

One thing this movie has that the originals doesn't is it looks real the TIE shots and the ship launching as Rey watches it,the X-Wing shots et cetera.

And I've said it a lot but...I like this blows the "and they lived happily ever after" crap from ROTJ out of the water, the end of ROTJ was just the start of a long, hard process and now we're at the point where it's pretty much everybody's chosen a side and now they're fighting for everything they believe in.

Did you see what happened to the actual helmet they burned?

There is what appears to be a trench opening up in one of the scenes from the trailer during the X-wing battle.

If that is analogous to the huge chasm we see elsewhen in the trailer and on the poster, that it is only just opening up. I do not count the initial crack of an opening chasm to be a trench if, five minutes later, it's bigger than the Grand Canyon.

Sometimes this thread kind of reminds me of "Kelly's Heroes", you know, that ever pessimistic Moriarty popping up with " all those negatives waves man!"
As you can guess its one of my favorite films. I'd love a Star Wars film with a similar treatment where somebody says "The only way we can keep those AT-AT's busy is to let them shot holes in us!" or "The only weak point in Walker is its ass!". They could be raiding some Imperial banking reserve behind the galactic lines etc etc etc. Vin Diesel could play Savalas "Big Joe",Simon Pegg the radio operater and Hugh Jackman Eastwoods "Kelly" etc.
Ok day dreaming over.

This needs to be a thing. Seriously. This needs to be one of the Anthology films. I would pay money to go see this.

Just noticed in the latest trailer - it looks like Rey is living in a broken down AT-AT. That shot of her getting her staff - she is walking from the bottom of the leg to the knee joint.
