Star Wars: The Force Awakens (Pre-release)

Yeah it's like airing a Twilight trailer during the Charlie Rose show. Neither have anything to do with the other.

I understand Disney owns ESPN, BUT air it on like ANY other Disney channel instead... here's an example... DISNEY XD, where they pimp out Rebels all day long. Or geeze... ABC! ESPN is one of the worst places to debut a Sci-Fi Fantasy film trailer.

I think the crossover between people who watch Monday night football and people who want to see the trailer isn't as slim as we might think. Both are unbelievably popular. There's maybe not much love for sports among adult prop enthusiasts, but on a national scale I think there is plenty of reason to air the trailer during the game.

I think I'd be happiest if they just released it for the theatres and that's it.

I would totally go to the movies to see that trailer

Yes, 17 years ago when that's how you could see it.

When I rushed out to see the Phantom Menace Trailer attached to Wing Commander it was fun, but if the technology today we use was available then I would have opted for an HD trailer to watch in a home theater.

.... I hope I can get reserved seating, I'll be trying desperately to do so. It would so help with being able to cosplay and then changing into comfortable digs for watching the movie....
Anyone else dressing up? I've got my ROTJ Boba ready on standby, what are your plans?

We all want to see the trailer, and we will, but we're a built in audience. The whole point of advertising is to reach as wide an audience as possible, no need to "preach to the choir".

This. I'm not clear why there is so much angst about the trailer premiering as a commercial at Half Time of a football game and then will be readily available online. You don't have to watch the game, you can just tune in around Half Time or keep an eye on SW.com. You know where and when to look for the trailer, who cares about the other details? ***** people get a grip.

This ^

We don't need to be hyped up. But the football fan crowd does, especially when your viewing audience tonight is New York and Philadelphia. Lots of new eyes on the film release details.

For the same reason I posted the Sneak Peak trailers 22 hours after they already premiered. I wasn't paying attention. ;)

Not to mention that it's not like tonight is the only time that the trailer will be shown, it's going to be shown elsewhere after tonight and probably so many times that you'll practically be sick of seeing it because you won't be able to turn on the TV at any time without seeing it. Then before long, you'll be able to see what will essentially be an extended trailer in 4D at Disneyland where Captain EO used to be.

FWIW, kickoff will be around 8:30 eastern. Halftime will hit most likely between 9:45 and 10:15 (depends on how the game unfolds).

Is there any tricks to getting tickets quicker? Is it better to use fandango or go directly to the theater site?

I can't speak for anybody else, but I work nights, so I won't be watching the trailer on TV anyway. I'll be catching it when it hits the internet-webs. It's not "angst", it's curiosity about the logic behind the marketing strategy attached this decision.

Good point
