Star Wars: The Force Awakens (Pre-release)

I went to a midnight release at Target and they had two full sections of merchandise. I was number 87 out of about 250 and I was able to grab a few things. The place was wiped out when it was all said and done, but they received a new shipment at 6 am the next morning and everything was just about replenished. I went to another Target at opening Friday that didn't do the midnight event and they were fully stocked. Went again to the first Target yesterday and they still had a healthy stock.

I can't possibly believe that BB8 cost $150's...then I saw the price...who are they kidding?

even at $50 it'd be expensive for something that tiny.

that was about the only thing I wouldn't mind having since my media room is currently out of space.

The issues with the prequels are largely as you said, direction, story, and somewhat acting.

and hayden christiensen. it's AMAZING how much more I loved Anakin as a hero when matt lanter took over. it was night and day. almost like hayden didn't want to be in there.
I had no problem with Jake Lloyd...

I think its because its the size of a tennis ball that the price seems a bit high. I'm sure if it were the size of a soccer ball, it might seem a little more worth it ...

CGI effects:

Is it THE weak point of the prequels? No.

Is it A weak point of the prequels? Absolutely.

"The prequel CGI was top notch for its time"

In #1, yes. But that was the only one. In #2 and #3 we suddenly started getting shots that looked cheap even by TV standards.

IMO there is something about CGI images that doesn't sell. I think maybe our subconscious mind registers that the images are not quite real even when we don't consciously pick it out.

They can composite, edit, and alter CGI footage with great results. But when the raw material of that process was purely CGI-created footage I think the end result suffers. Some things can't really be done any other way besides fully CGI images but practical stuff is preferable whenever it can be done.

Agreed. CGI has its place but it should be used only as needed. I always thought Dr. Malcolm's little spiel from Jurassic Park (itself a near perfect melding of CGI and practical effects) about "your scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could, they didn't stop to think if they should" applies here. George, perhaps in an attempt to be "cutting edge", got in the habit of using it simply because he could. I was shocked at how badly the prequels have aged in just the past 10-15 years but I remember there being numerous scenes that looked terrible even when they were new. I particularly remember some really bad looking scenes in the temple with Obi-wan, Mace, and Yoda on his little floating platform. It almost looked like those shots weren't completed or something.

I'm sorry don't know nothing about these two, but these guys come off as the biggest star wars posers around. And stopped watching the video for about a few seconds.

And they also look the same type of jerk guys in high school who give me, my friends and others crap for being geeks/nerds, into computers, science, star wars comic books, toys, etc. This was back in 90-96s

Then you ARE lost.

he showed far more life than hayden did. Hayden is the Meghan Fox of male actors.

Our beach toys r us didn't seem tohave much in the way of episode 7 stuff. lots of classic trilogy. a few bits and peices of rebels. but not much Episode 7.
No BB8 but I did see this. Bigger than the last vader I bought.. if funds allowed, I would have gotten it.

I also would have bought this. but not at that price. is it just me, or is even the small stuff that is micro machine size a tad on the expensive size? Guess disney has to make up for IP price.

Disney doesn't have to make up for anything, this movie alone will pay for the acquisition when it's all said and done. Technology has a price, but you seem to think they should just be giving this stuff away

not saying they should... but I would think even collectors would balk and think twice at a $129 item.

Price it at $50 and watch them fly off the shelves.

whining, huh? is that was they call discussion these days?

all I did was point out the prices seemed kind of high for what they where offering. at least the 24 inch vader seemed reasonable.

oh well... company, halt! resumehigh value spending!
