Star Wars: The Force Awakens (Pre-release)

I just don't care what they call canon outside of the films and clone wars, I wasn't bothered by the old EU being de-canonized and don't hold these new comics as being above the movies. If something crosses onto the big screen from a comic then I will acknowledge it. I think expanded universe stuff is great, love comics and have hear good things about this new run, but it's all just parallel universes and such to me.

There are lots of ways the story could go on to invalidate this premise. Maybe "wife" means something different on this chick's planet. Maybe Han did it involuntarily for some reason, like in the process of breaking out of jail, or paying off a debt, etc. He could have been later prevented from going back and undoing it. Etc.

But . . . good lord . . . they'd better invalidate this premise somehow. And fast. Han is about as treasured as SW characters get. You don't start letting writers screw around with him just for shoots & giggles.

My guess is an "Our Mrs. Reynolds" situation, (though in this case Han could either have been in Mal's position or Saffron's.)

That was my first thought, too. We've now got Han imitating the Han imitation. This STARWARSCANONOMG!!!! clickbait reporting is obnoxious. This is a throwaway single-issue comic book plotline - nothing that will affect the characters or the films long-term.

Having read more details, this is even dumber than I thought. I also didn't realize this is between ANH and TESB. About the only way they can salvage this for me is for her to just be some nutjob calling herself Han's wife.

When they wiped the EU (most of which I didn't care for anyways) and said everything was canon from this point on, I was fine with that, with the caveat that the material had better be good. So far, they are failing miserably, imo.

This is really really insignificant, guys. The story is a misunderstanding. Does Han look busted or annoyed here? Remember, this is before "I love you" and "I know." If you're going to care so much about everything they write into "technically canon" monthly comic books you're gonna drive yourselves crazy or end up hating the films. Gotta ignore it, like the prequels. ;)

You know, the one thing I wish would do with the comics/video games is start creating an expanded universe. The whole Han wife thing is rubbing us wrong because it feels like a soap opera.

They should just use the comics as an opportunity to expand the galaxy. Forget the main ANH cast. Let's develop the galaxy.
