Star Wars: The Force Awakens (Pre-release)

Re: Star Wars: The Force Awakens

I'll be happy if it's posted online. In 2014 it would be idiotic not to have it online. I'm not going to Cleveland to see it.

Re: Star Wars: The Force Awakens

I've gone from very excited about this movie and the trailer release to being a bit ticked off. I understand that the're going to get a ton of attention for this release and the way they're doing it... but, I'm starting to think that this is an insulting way to treat fans. This isn't a wide release, where fans from all over will be able to indulge... this is an extremely limited release that is meant to garner attention and build hype.

It's self serving and just a terrible way to treat fans. I don't know how or why they would limit it to 30 theater chains - it's a stupid decision. ...at this point, I'm just upset and disappointed in the terrible way this is being handled - especially after the great, fan friendly way Disney/Marvel handled Avengers AoU.

With still no details on an internet release, I'd guess that this trailer will be exclusive to those theaters and not hit the 'net until December (when it goes wide). I also wonder if these theater chains pain for this privilege?

Re: Star Wars: The Force Awakens

I love that they are doing it this way. The online thing sometimes seems cheap to me. I'm glad they are making it special and I wouldn't worry too much; the online release will surely come within a week or two.
Patience! ( Yoda voice)
And I don't think it's insulting at all.
The prequels however. ..
;)

This is really weird because the Chicago, IL Regal City North Stadium 14 IMAX & RPX is actually is 2 miles from me, or 8min by car. I figured it would be the theater in down town Chicago :p Well, I might just go see Big Hero 6 :)

I doubt they'll wait even a day to put it online. They don't want everyone else's first look to be dark cellphone footage. Good luck stopping people from shooting it. Even if they have the best security, there's still going to be an employee who hates his job that will shoot it from the projection room.

Re: Star Wars: The Force Awakens

I think I'll take the kid's to Big Hero 6 so they can see the trailer too.

Maybe they'll get the same vibe that I did when I saw the trailers for Star Wars and Empire on the big screen.

Re: Star Wars: The Force Awakens

Yeah this is likely only one aspect of the trailers release over this coming weekend. It will be available online, they won't want just crappy bootlegs floating around.

This is 2014, the age where information is delivered at lightning fast speeds. Where people won't wait to read it in the next issue of a magazine, but read in on a website.

There's nothing cheap about releasing an official trailer online. Just do it in HD in all its glory for everyone to take in.

Now WATCHING A WHOLE MOVIE... No way do I ever do that on a computer or tablet. It MUST be in a cinema-style fashion with big sound and all. Trailers though... Come on. Drive hours and paying for a movie ticket to watch an 88 second clip isn't practical for anyone unless you have oodles of time on your hands and money to burn.

Re: Star Wars: The Force Awakens

That's a pretty pathetic list of theaters IMO.

As big a fan as I am, i'm not driving 4.5 hours to the nearest theater in Dallas...Thanks for the big screw you Disney...

Re: Star Wars: The Force Awakens

Apparently one of the reasons its not being made available over the net this weekend is because there are some significant worries over internet speeds over the weekend ,particularly in the US and UK. I can understand the reasoning in US given the hoilday and likely impact of interent shopping and at this time more than any ,apparently the success of net film downloads (with Marvels Guardians of the Galaxy in the UK released this week plus Black Friday shopping) and computer gaming on a weekend is putting a huge strain on rural and suburban internet services. The release of the SW trailer given the immediate impact it would have had everywhere would not have helped at all. Thats why the Jurassic Park has come out a bit a early I'm told. It does seem to make sense. Also by limiting the release to a few locations it will give some very accurate information about the increasing cinema visits. i wouldn't be surprised to find some interesting market research going on.

How about... Tough crap, internets, and deal with/fix it. :D

Re: Star Wars: The Force Awakens

I like the idea! It will be more iconic to have a completely different type of droid. When I started watching Interstellar I hated the robot, it looked like a cheap B movie thing and also the nod to 2001. By the end of the film I felt sad when it went on its mission.

I'm almost not wanting the new Star Wars to come out. It is so much more fun speculating... it is like a load of kids on Christmas eve :)
