Re: Star Wars Episode VII
Yes ,it would be (!) sad. Very, very sad.
Who is the target audience? Is it still kids, or is it adults with a taste for cynical tragedies?
The OT was Lukes story. Not Vaders. It was about the heroes (!) journey. Helping his father was just the final task. Besting his father on a different level than Freud meant, but its still part.of growth.
Now showing that Luke probably does ultimately fail in the end is IMO like seeing a real life father/mentor/hero show unforgiveable character flaws.
And you know why I do not want to see this in a new Star Wars movie?
Because it's NOT REAL LIFE!
Star Wars is IMO Escapism at its best, a means to escape reality for a few hours. On so many levels.
I personally do not want to see a flawed hero In Star Wars.
Give me a flawed.Batman or an alcohol addicted Tony Stark or an insecure Spiderman any time. But NO Luke Skywalker, please!
Because KIDS can't get the inherent messages!!! They take that stuff at eye value, and you jnow whats the best indication for that? Movies with broken heroes usually are pg13 or older.
I had already.asked it in his thread, and the few answers to the question of how they felt about Anakin was that they dont like him anymore. No "poor Annie, but I can see that he was miaguided by the sith lords". It is way.over their heads.
Although the OT had its adults oriented moments, kids easily related to all of the movies.
I'd love to see it kept that way.

It isn't sad... It would actually make some sense! Who better to be a bad guy than luke? It would actually make for some tough story telling and blow away a lot of fans....
