Star Wars: The Force Awakens (Pre-release)

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

The Prequals hands down, I watched Legacy back to back with Tron and thought it was a complete train wreck. At least with the PT you can skip to the lightsaber battles :)

It isnt all about the cast. The prequels had Christopher Lee, Ewan McGregor, Brian Blessed, Liam Neeson, Natalie Portman, Samuel L Jackson ..... very good actors ... and still were not very good movies. It was the story. They didnt tell the story most of us wanted to see, and told it very poorly I might add. I am sure something even worse than the prequels could possibly be made even with Hamill, Fisher, and Ford.

I dont think the prequels were as horrible as some make them out to be. I still watch them because I love lightsabers and spaceships.

I just hope someone who can write decent dialogue is involved with the Disney sequels.>>

No sir, you are absolutely right. I'm not saying this set of actors will ensure a good story; I'm saying that my memory of Star Wars was from a time when it was a good story with this set of actors...

Leia would probably still be in politics, Solo would probably be with Leia but avoid anything to do with politics. Solo Probably owns a cantina and is retired from his smuggling days. Chewy probably still in the smuggling business and now owns the Falcon.
Luke probably still lives on Tatooine as a hermit, much like Obi Wan.

I really want to see Jedi Leia vs. Chancellor Leia.

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

The truth is all of the 1977-83 actors are too old to be major players in a "Star Wars" movie. There's probably no harm in giving them small roles but we will regret it if they get most of the screen time.

Leia . . . Seeing more of her might work well in moderation. Although an older Leia might feel too much like Hillary Clinton if not handled just right.

Han . . . if it was the 1990s then the Harrison Ford of "Air Force One" and "The Fugitive" would have been good. But the Harrison Ford of 2012 is just too old. I don't see what they could do with him now that wouldn't just take away from our memory of the character.

Luke . . . The character would probably age well. The actor has aged decently. But the actor has not aged along the same path as this character. Mark Hamill made a great Luke in his 20s but I don't think he is still the right guy for Luke in his 50s/60s. The Mark Hamill of 2012 just does not carry the dramatic presence that you want from an older Luke Skywalker.

Why?

The man looks 10 years younger than he is (68) and is still doing action movies. There is no reason to think that he couldn't play Han and do the character justice.

Um...he's an actor. He'll put the dramatic presence into his performance. Just think of Mark Hamill and Luke Skywalker as 2 different people who just happen to share the same face.

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

Lol, it would be cool if Leia was diplomatic and proper through most of the film, then near the end starts whoopin butt with the force.

OR racking out cocaine and necking Vodka with the force! :popcorn

I just cant see Carrie playing anything other than a grumpy, bitter, Space grandma Leia. :thumbsdown

I think like someone said earlier it would have to be a cameo at best :sick

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

I can see Luke started the Academy on Yavin, as to me it feels like something he would do.

My guess is that the films will focus on their kids. One way to get both the original stars for old fans and to get the kids involved. Young Jedi Knights went this route, and it does work pretty well. The biggest problem writing this should be to find something to be like Vader and the Empire. That was the glue that held the first films together. Epic.

No biggie, but I hope they dont go back to the ballet lightsaber duels from the PT. I want it kendo style, with focus on dialoge. But thats not gonna happen, right...

Oh, and I want Leia back! She is a huge part of the originals, and I want her in this. No, I demand that she is. ;)

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

I can see a goatee sportin Admiral Solo on the bridge of a new republic cruiser. He is a space pilot after all and what a command that would be... and perhaps his mission is taking the two Jedi twins (Leia and a bearded Luke) on a "diplomatic mission" for aggressive negotiations. :love

seriously though they would have to give Han a new look and new cool uniform and that would do it for me!

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

Which was better, Tron Legacy or the prequels?

Prequels, strangely.

The Prequals hands down, I watched Legacy back to back with Tron and thought it was a complete train wreck. At least with the PT you can skip to the lightsaber battles :)

I liked Tron Legacy. The only problem I had was the CGI young Jeff Bridges kept taking me out of the movie. CGI just isn't that good yet. Shouldn't have tried it. That is why I am looking forward to another Tron, where hopefully it will center around Garret Hedlund, Olivia Wilde, and Cillian Murphy.

The prequels looked great. Didn't feel like Star Wars, because when I think Star Wars, I thinks very used and lived in. I think models, not CGI.

I guess I refer to Tron when I think of SW7, because it is Disney's most recent sci-fi product. Gives me an idea of what to expect.

When I was awaiting Phantom Menace in 1999, all I could think of is what Lucas was able to do way back in 1977, what would he be able to put out with all this new technology?!
I was waiting to be blown away. Those dinos in Jurrasic Park looked so real, imagine that tech put towards Star Wars!

Now here I am getting ready for SW7. Im not really thinking about special effects at all. I just want a well written story, with great dialogue, executed by great actors, under the direction of a great director.

Disney, PLEASE focus on the story! You KNOW people are going to go see this. You KNOW it will make money. PLEASE just don't slap anything on the screen.
SAVE Star Wars! Bring it back.
There once was a time when Star Wars was far above and beyond everything else. Get Star Wars back there, where it belongs!

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

I thought the CGI young Flynn worked in the "Tron" world but the flashback in the real world did look way too fake and creepy. My problem was the ending... how the hell did she become a "real girl"?

Can't wait to start seeing a few teasers and spoilers for SW7... never in my wildest dreams did I think we would be back to this again! Long Live SW! (just don't kill it... again. :lol )

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

I want to see Mark get possessed by some evil Dark Jedi Force thingy and bust out into his Joker voice. :)

I actually like this poster, a lot. Simple, and iconic. Very nice.

You have a problem with her becoming a real girl, but not a problem with a computer digitizing a person out of existince and creating a microscopic replica of them 'in the system' and then when they leave the system can simply recreate their human form for them - out of thin air - but you have a problem with them making a human body for a character that started out as digital? :)

Well, if we're voting for that to be the official poster, can I vote that each year we get closer some Drew Struzan-type artwork gets filled in, a little bit per year, until the whole poster slaps you in the face Jan 1 2015? Dammit, now you made me actually feel a twinge of anticipation for this thing.

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

Have there been any nebula's in 1-6? :)

Also, I don't think disney will likely be on it either. Check out the Avengers poster, for example, it has Marvel and Paramount, not disney.
