Star Wars: The Force Awakens (Pre-release)

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

What if Chewy now has grey hair?....he was 200 years old in the OT so I'm wondering if he would have grey hair by now?

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

Whatever story arc takes place, if Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher and Harrison Ford are in it, it will at long, long last be Star Wars again to me. :cool:thumbsup

It isnt all about the cast. The prequels had Christopher Lee, Ewan McGregor, Brian Blessed, Liam Neeson, Natalie Portman, Samuel L Jackson ..... very good actors ... and still were not very good movies. It was the story. They didnt tell the story most of us wanted to see, and told it very poorly I might add. I am sure something even worse than the prequels could possibly be made even with Hamill, Fisher, and Ford.

I dont think the prequels were as horrible as some make them out to be. I still watch them because I love lightsabers and spaceships.

I just hope someone who can write decent dialogue is involved with the Disney sequels.

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

^I agree with that. There have been plenty of 'all star cast' movies what were not overall good movies.

On a side note though about bringing the original cast back, I wonder if anyone has considered talking to Bill D Williams?

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

Of course, when the 3d changes were announced 7-9 were already 'go'....following the 2 a year model you'd have ANH and ESB in 2014, ROTJ in early 2015 and E7 mid 2015.

If it IS the plan, it'd be an awesome way to build up to the new movies.

Absolutely. Seeing the OT flow into the ST that way would be amazing.

.. a few grey hairs I could accept, male pattern baldness would be another thing entirely. Nobody wants to see Chewbacca with a receding hairline!

Anyway, regardless or what or who is or isn't in these next movies, Disney/LFL now have a golden opportunity to make something great. I want them to look back at what made the original trilogy so special; familar archetypal characters, a strong straightforward storyline with wit, humour and excitement. I want to see the 'space adventure movies' that Star Wars started out as, peppered with classic Star Wars design styles, and scored by John Williams.

The prequels made a ton of money though, and I'm concerned that for Lucasfilm they have established the look and tone of the Star Wars Universe now..

..Hope I'm wrong though, because this could be epic! - Disney/LFL, you have a second chance to get it right!

I honestly think that if Disney got the writing crew from the Pixar films together to work on this, they could have some amazing.
Virtually every single Pixar film has been flawless, and nearly every one of those films has plenty of heart and that old magic that is gone from most other films today.

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

They need to go back and look at the OT for me. The OT felt "real' the sets looked like they were lived in, like that galaxy existed and you could step in to that world. The thing that ruined the PT to me (apart from Anakin being a whiny little bi#ch) was the CGI was to over the top, everything looked to clean. It felt like a CGI film where the actors were stood infront of green screens.

Maybe I'm wrong though maybe GL was right all along and I'd just grown up and the PT were just as good as the OT

At the least, I hope that the initial treatments and all script drafts pass through Lasseter's desk. I don't know how much he knows about Star Wars but he definitely knows a lot about what makes a good story and if Disney is smart they'll make him the chief overseer for the sequel trilogy. It wouldn't be too far fetched considering that he is their Chief Creative Officer and they could easily expand his responsibilities to oversee anything Star Wars related.

Agreed...I'm also pretty sure that the majority of Pixar's crew are SW fans.(considering the SW nods and Easter eggs in the Lixar films)
Up till now Pixar's writers have confined themselves to making films for kids with enough substance forthe adult crowds...I'm sure they would have no problem shifting their stance to the more adult crowd for SW.

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

Been thinking about all this today, If they do reprise the old roles I cant see anything other than Hamill working, Leia.....na cant see it, Ford just wouldn't be exciting as an old Smuggler, unless as a general behind a desk..

Hamill could pull off an old Obi Wan style Jedi thats more of an old timer now.

After watching Fisher in the TMZ video I shuddered to think of her in the same role anymore, seems pointless and for the sake of it....I'd be tempted to say I'd rather see JarJar than Fisher in VII

Well maybe not that bad !!!!!!

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

Pixar's philosophy is the story is the most important thing. Before any work begins at Pixar the script has to be accepted and it has to be a good story to be accepted. They don't go in and toss the script, the script is the bible for them. It's perfected before anything else happens. That's as it should be.

Somewhere there's a video about how they approach a movie and it explains how hard it is to get a script approved. Once approved though, the writer tends to get lots of power in the process, seems like more than 1/2 the time they're appointed as director.

Hollywood though will start casting, building sets, etc before a script is done these days.

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

Leia would probably still be in politics, Solo would probably be with Leia but avoid anything to do with politics. Solo Probably owns a cantina and is retired from his smuggling days. Chewy probably still in the smuggling business and now owns the Falcon.
Luke probably still lives on Tatooine as a hermit, much like Obi Wan.

Everyone who thinks the only reason the PT sucked compared to the OT was because they'd since grown up needs to remind themselves that such luminaries as Stanley Kubrick were deep into middle-age when they said they enjoyed Star Wars!

Right...except when Disney tells them "You're going to do a sequel to a huge financial success. We don't care what it's about, just make it happen, and make it happen on this date." Here's why the new trilogy scares the poop out of me.
