Star Wars: The Force Awakens (Post-release)

Re: Star Wars TFA. Warning spoilers and I hate it!!! Haters and Lovers Welcome

But the movie as terrific. :lol

Now that is just cruel. There is busting balls and then there is cutting them out and dancing on them.:lol

On a totally separate note where were all the A wings and B wings and Mon Calamari base ships and stuff.

With a handful of X wings, and one Star Destroyer and the Death Star take 3, I was surprised that the scope was rather small.

Anybody pull a Homer Simpson while walking out of the theater? :lol

Much anger I sense from you...

I think it was a massive mistake destroying the "Sun Gun" in this film. It would have been much better story wise if the resistance had simply damaged the hell out of it/ disabled it; making it still a looming threat on the horizon but "safe for now" scenario.

You do realize in Empire the Emperor is projected huge sized as well when talking to vader. Both in the original monkey face look and the SE redo of Ian...It's something egomaniacs tend to do. There's a reason CEO's get giant chairs and big offices, etc. It's been common through history for certain leaders to make sure they were on pedestals so as to be taller than everyone else....

I actually like that from Ren he is unstable, and that's what makes him completely unpredictable. He could hear bad news and respond calmly, or he could just lose his (you know what) and destroy the crap out of stuff in a fit of rage. He's very dangerous and I could never really tell how he'd respond.

The Han/Kylo scene though I had a gut wrenching feeling I knew, but when it happened.... wow. That sealed Klyo's rep for officially being the new a-hole.

Great villain.

Dooku, Maul, Vader, all would have kicked Ren's butt - easily. I don't fear him as a character because of the fact he's apparently all rage and no brains. No calm, cool, and collected just pure bad guy. Seems more a whiny brat who think's things should always go the way he wants them and that he should be able to do what he wants. The commander doesn't seem to fear him in the slightest. And - i think that's the point. Just as han said, he's being manipulated for someone else's gain. Once that gain is complete, he's going to be tossed aside like yesterday's newspaper. Perhaps, that's part of the point. He's not supposed to be the evil villain ala vader. Just a pawn in a larger game and the immediate fall guy so to speak. Maybe, too, the Snoke we've seen isn't actually Snoke - but just what he projects - much like the wizard of oz. Doubtful, but you never know.

That type will always go to the dark side. I can still see him flipping good down the line.

I don't think it is anger, I think the word is "disappointed".

It's pure Anger. It is raw, seething anger and hatred. My dog could write a better script and JJ ******* is going to make millions of this piece of crap.

I am so tired of hacks making millions. Yes there is some serious jealousy in there as well.

God the more I think about it the worse it gets. I try to distract myself but I can't.

Well just got back from the movies. I need time to think over it but here are my initial thoughts.

It was good, way better than the PT, but I must admit I wasn't totally blown away. It has a lot of good qualities. I love the new characters, especially Rey. The comedy was good and well placed. Acting was good to great all around. However, the movie did seem to be lacking a certain "something" I can't put my finger on yet. It almost seemed like it was trying a little too hard and I agree with comments stating it moved too fast and rarely stopped to breathe. Han's death was...okay but only just. I think we all predicted it would happen so it wasn't really too much of a shock. I was disappointed in Snoke and fail to see why he needed to be a (rather boring looking) mocap character. I was shocked that Max von Sydow's character was killed off so quickly. Frankly, that character could've been played by anyone. Seems like a waste of a good actor. I still don't quite understand what the Resistance is and why do they only have X-wings? I would've thought we'd see some more ships, or variants thereof, we saw in ROTJ. Also, did they blow up Coruscant? I wasn't sure exactly what we were seeing there. I was also pretty disappointed in the music, which kinda shocks me. I can't think of a single memorable theme or motif.

I know it sounds like I'm being a negative nancy but to be clear, I did like the movie overall. It just had several niggles that bugged me though.

That is a very good point but my goodness if he is not really that tall it's taking it to a silly extreme. Plus that was just the Emperor's head. He projected himself normal at other times.
This Snoke was a huge, ginormous full body. Plus what a dumb name. I thought it was fake. Sounds like Snot. "Lord Snot I have your giant kleenex."

Of course I can't say the work Dooku without thinking of potty training. So sad when he had such a cool Sith name.

Meesa thinks this will not go over well when all is said and done.

:D:lol It would read like this:

44 year old fat guy breaks down screaming into the air, "Why God, Why???????????"

He was taken in for psychiatric evaluation.

When he told the Doctors why he was so upset they kicked him out for being such a geek loser.

Well, I was not sure if I would see it, and now...NO! Seeing the trailers it looked like a reboot of sorts to me, and JJAbrams doing to Star Wars like he did to Star Trek, no surprise.

I saw every Star Wars movie in the theater since 1977, and this will not be one of them. I'm glad I have the DVDs. As Jar Jar would say..."Mesa don't care, about Disney Star Wars."

Re: Star Wars TFA. Warning spoilers and I hate it!!! Haters and Lovers Welcome

I feel there were many fun aspects to the film. I only saw it once and people in the cinema were talking and being a distraction (mostly women if you couldnt believe it lol)

When i get to view it on my 24 inch ultra wide computer screen at a two foot distance with headphones on. i will be able to give it my final judgment. cinema is very over rated and i get little comfort sharing the experiance with strangers who would rather be somewhere else. also im long sighted so i have to sit at the back to be able to focus on the massive screen which then seems smaller than my home setup, which i can easily focus on. Im probably having eye issues i know haha.

It is nice to hear from poeple who are honest about their feelings, most of which i agree with but dont feel all that bothered by. They are very valid points being raised in this thread and for me, star wars was more about the visuals anyway.

So this movie gives me a bunch of new things to oogle over and possibly build models of. I have the same feelings for the prequals, full of great visuals and a rather convoluted story. TFA is better than the prequals but not as genuine as the OT.

I also believe in it being impossible to re-create childhood memories becuase the adult mind just doesnt work the same way, anthing you see as a child is burned into your phsychy whether the movies were good or bad, the feeling is all you have to take away from it. and you cant re create those feelings.

A first viewing of TFA, 6 out of 10 for me :)

Re: Star Wars TFA. Warning spoilers and I hate it!!! Haters and Lovers Welcome

I saw it today, and have mixed feelings about it. I did enjoy it, and I will most likely see it at least one more time in the theater. However, I do agree with most of the "disappointments" discussed in this thread.

The score was the biggest disappointment, for me. The prequel scores were all significantly better, and I'm no prequel fan. Other than a few, well-timed inclusions of the classic themes, the rest was totally forgettable.

I also really struggle with the implications on Luke's character, but perhaps the following movies will have some really good explanation for why he would just give up and go hide.

R2, in "low power" mode, under a tarp all these years, because Luke left? Dumb. Threepio pointing out his red arm was stupid too.

What bugged me the most about Snoke was actually the "Supreme Leader" title. Maybe he'll promote himself to Emperor, once the First Order controls the galaxy. I guess the remnants of the Empire are still so vast that they have the resources to build new classes of Star Destroyers, updated gear, and a bigger Death Star than ever.

Another thing that bothered me, along the lines of how Rey is so strong with the Force despite zero training, is how she was such an amazing pilot. Likewise for Poe. The flight scenes were over-the-top compared to anything we've seen previously. I like how they treated the lightsaber duels here, but the flying is like the the over-choreographed acrobatic lightsaber fights from the prequels. It would have been much more appropriate to see Anakin flying like Poe did. Maybe Poe is super force-sensitive. Rey just must be a natural, like her grand-daddy.

I was bummed that Rey's AT-AT wreck house didn't materialize like all the concept art showed. Instead, it just turned into a little bit of shade for Rey to eat her lunch in. It was just an AT-AT wreck, laying on it's side, all boring like. Not even a good pose, and no indication of turning it into a shelter, or a hangar for her quad-engine ship.

The Starkiller base really didn't work for me, on so many levels. Sure, Star Wars has never been realistic, with it's single-biome planets and such, but this just doesn't make any sense. It's a planet, orbiting a star, but sucking off the star. The physics problems are just astronomically stupid, before you even start to think about things like how it could possibly aim. How can it even maintain an orbit, while it somehow sucks the matter away from the star it orbits? How can it pull that much energy into itself without destroying the planet?!? Big enough solar flare activity from our own sun could devastate the Earth, but this thing can somehow suck a star off all the way through it's atmosphere, to the point of diminishing the whole star? This is just silly, far beyond being essentially Death Star 3. Also, exactly how long does it take to fire a weapon at planets in other solar systems? Does the beam go through hyperspace somehow, or does it take years or centuries to get to the target planet at the speed of light?

The ending bugged me too. They should have given Luke at least one good line to end it, or maybe had him actually take the saber and look it over (mirroring Vader checking out Luke's saber in ROTJ). The helicopter shot they ended with felt totally weird.

But STILL... I'd rank it better than ROTJ and the prequels, and I feel a sense of relief that it was as good as it was. Not great, but I'll gladly take it.

I loved it, I put it just behind ANH and ESB.

Minor nits. MINOR, I say:

BB-8 won me over (I was quite skeptical), except I still think the dome design is way too softened and cutsiefied---he's like a Fisher Price Artoo. Harden up the edges a bit and my qualms with BB would be down to zero.

It makes sense that the trooper armor would evolve to protect more of the body, but that results in less black undersuit being seen---those black areas have a visually slimming effect that is now gone, so now the troopers have a somewhat short and stocky appearance.

In the real world of propmaking, it looks like Rey's staff was built with prequel saber parts in it, and that is distracting and makes no sense in-universe.

The Falcon's quad lasers have the wrong sound effect. And why didn't he go to the top turret when the bottom one got stuck?

Wrong ignition sound effect for Luke's old saber.
(and it really shouldn't exist at all because it fell to the center of Bespin being gripped by his severed hand, but that's a debate we've had elsewhere. ;) )

Waste of Artoo and Threepio. I'm very happy for the Builder's Guild guys, but a new Artoo was not needed for 30 seconds of screentime. LFL has plenty of leftovers.
And it's like everyone forgot Threepio should have a silver leg. I guess the costume was all gold from the prequels and no one thought about it.

Not particularly enamored with any of the new weapons. They're okay, and I don't outright dislike them like I did some of the prequel weapons, but they have lost the "Bapty threw together some stuff from the first two world wars" aesthetic.

Gotta run, more later.

I DO NOT WANT LUKE TO SAY IN THE NEXT MOVIE "I am you Father".

How about,

"Who's your Daddy?"

or since Star Wars it now Lord of the Rings and his saber called to her,

"Rey,..Where is my precious?"

or,

"How is my little girl I abandon on that rock?"
