Star Wars: The Force Awakens (Post-release)

Re: Star Wars TFA. Warning spoilers and I hate it!!! Haters and Lovers Welcome

Dude's been threatening to leave this thread for his last 3 posts! LOL :lol

Re: Star Wars TFA. Warning spoilers and I hate it!!! Haters and Lovers Welcome

I find it absolutely hysterical that the guys who love this film are clearly wounded by those who don't care for it. :lol

I find it hysterical that though there's a thread where people are discussing it, good and bad, the people who hate it had to start this new thread so they can have their voice heard more :behave:lol

then talk like we're wounded...

The books are beginning to lay out a story where the Republic was afraid of forming a military to counter the First Order and Leia took it on herself to start what is sort of a second Rebel Alliance called the Resistance.

Since you seem to know--is Aftermath the only book out now? I abandoned the old EU awhile back when it became unwieldy and inaccessible. I want to jump right on the new EU and try to keep up.

Aftermath is the the most important Journey to the TFA book so far. But it is a mixed bag.

I find broccoli hysterical. It's basically a mini bush and people eat it.

And yet, here you are...

Yeah... cuz again... you guys had to start your own thread... am I not allowed to read it? Am I only allowed to read opinions that match my own?

I guess that's why I could handle reading the other thread, even when it was primarily negative, cuz I'm not wounded. When the thread discussion turned more to the positive... this call to "I HATE THIS... WE NEED MORE HATE" thread popped up... I only even spoke up cuz you said "the guys who love this film are clearly wounded by those who don't care for it." in a thread created because the ones who hate it were so wounded that people didn't agree with THEM, that they start their own thread.

I find it interesting to hear what did and didn't work for people... I even find it interesting to argue it. But that blanket statement is a little harsh. :)

I normally don't like crude humor but that was funny. :lol:D

Guys lets keep it hating and loving fun.

I seriously would love to here why people liked it just don't get mad when I talk about how much I hate it.

We can co-exist. I know we can,...no we can't. It was crap, no one could like it,...you are brainwashed,...we can get along and share our opinions without being mad,..no we c,..yes we ca,....aaahhh!!

Re: Star Wars TFA. Warning spoilers and I hate it!!! Haters and Lovers Welcome

I think you're rather having your own argument. In point of fact, "I" didn't start any thread. I simply chose to participate in this one rather than others...exactly like you.

The point is, something drew you to this thread and ironically enough, you continue to participate in it while questioning why it's here to begin with!

Personally, I prefer to be around like minded individuals for threads such as this. I don't care to change minds or hear the other fanatical side. Kinda dissapointed the OP opened it up for counter points to be honest with you!

But, by all means, champion whatever you wish. Like I said, i'm just bored in between coats of paint.

I give this film a 6.5 on the 10 scale but will say it's the best SW film since Empire. :thumbsup

I'll still build Rey's gun and probably a BB8...then I'll bore with them (as I did this film) and sell'em.

Re: Star Wars TFA. Warning spoilers and I hate it!!! Haters and Lovers Welcome

Wow, way to call attention to yourself by starting your own thread to say how much you hated the film when there are already three other TFA threads ongoing. Grandstand much? :rolleyes

The whining and bitching on this forum is absolutely mind-boggling and it's why I'm glad I stayed away from any TFA discussions before seeing the film. I enjoyed the hell out of it and I'm glad I didn't have to listen to a bunch of Debbie Downers before I saw it or I might have blown my brains out before even making it to the theater. Seriously, if people are this upset over a movie that is literally light years ahead of anything we've seen from the Star Wars franchise in over 30 years then it's clear there's just no pleasing some people. To say this was worse than the prequels is quite possibly the stupidest thing I've heard on this forum in a long time....and there's usually some pretty stupid **** said here on a regular basis.

I'll bow out of this thread now because it's clearly just going to end up like most SW threads ultimately do....a bunch of back and forth bickering where nothing ultimately gets accomplished. Enjoy the misery.

Like I said, twice, most seemed to like it and I was trying not to argue with them or tell them how wrong they were like you just did.

Your bitching about bitching. Smart.

If you don't want to read about people complaining about how bad this movie is why would you waste time reading in a thread with the title this one has.

Talk about the stupidest thing of all time.

Nice to meet you.

Tom

Don't you love that logic Tom? Why is it, that when a thread pops up or topic pops up that is not to a person's personal opinion or view, they feel the need to post? They clearly see this is a thread for those who take issue with the film and they already have a praise thread going... Yet they just can't control the urge to post a lecture on how wrong it is to have your own opinion. You respected the praise thread by creating a separate one to express your view without raining on their parade, but they can't have the same respect. Your view contradicts theirs so they just have to step in here and tell you all about it :lol

Yeah, it is funny when people contradict their own argument.

Re: Star Wars TFA. Warning spoilers and I hate it!!! Haters and Lovers Welcome

I enjoyed the film but I agree almost completely with the first post. It read more as a bit of comedy for me, truth in this humor.

It is easy to find flaws but I don't think Rey's ability to fight is that unbelievable considering her prowess with that staff thing had already been demonstrated. And also as mentioned, Kylo had just taken a direct hit from the crossbow and was bleeding out in cold weather.

Part of of me thought Luke was going to crack a smile and ask Rey if she found his hand with that.

I liked it but it was exactly what was expected. Part of me also hoped for a ballsy ending like a failure to destroy the new super weapon. You know, some divergence from what is so familiar.

Re: Star Wars TFA. Warning spoilers and I hate it!!! Haters and Lovers Welcome

Hey, in my case I'm utterly astonished at all the hate I'm seeing. With what you said in your first post, Tom, I feel like we were watching completely different films. I do wish John Williams would bring in a scion of his who is fresher and has new ideas to assist in breaking out of the saminess of his last couple decades' worth of film scores. I think he peaked in the early '80s (and even then there are a lot of similarities between Empire and Raiders). Apart from that, I had very few issues with TFA, quite loved it, and can't wait to see it again tomorrow at a local 501st event, and then next week with my mom. I could respond point-by-point to your detailed post, but I'm pretty sure I won't convince you otherwise. There are definitely unanswered questions -- some which deserve future screen time answering, some which will do fine being addressed in ancillary material. But in general, everything was right there on the screen and in the dialogue. A few things require some behind-the-scenes knowledge, but of the sort that's easily findable.

Just two examples I'm going to point to:

- The Falcon has always looked like junk. Luke comments on this the first time he sees it. Rey has no reason to think a legendary ship like the Millennium Falcon would 1) look like crap and 2) be on Jakku of all places. So she dismisses the broken down junky looking freighter as more of the trash that surrounds them. Stingy junk-trading dude "owns" it, but apparently hasn't flown it in a while, so she doesn't know whether it even can, nor does him having that run down junkheap tie it in her head to the semi-mythic name "Han Solo". Zero problem with it sitting there in plain sight, because no one there would ever imagine that's what that ship is.

- Phasma wasn't originally part of the story. That costume was inspired by some of McQuarrie's early art for what would ultimately become Vader, It was going to be the character who evolved into Kylo. But they liked the look of the shiny, special, tall Stormtrooper, so it kinda hung around in the backs of their brains, and Phasma just sort of... grew out of that. Like Aphrodite springing fully formed from the brow of Zeus. *heh* She was conceived as sort of a one-dimensional First Order Stormtrooper officer -- duty and discipline and not a lot of distinguishing characteristics. They didn't want to take any screen time away from the rest of the story developing her character beyond that -- in this film. But they've said she's going to be back in VIII, so I expect to see her become more complex. She was just introduced in this one.

*shrug* Like I said, I could go point by point and give you my own "certain point of view" that apparently differs so drastically from yours. But I have a feeling you'd just get anoyed at the attempt. What bugs me most is the general attitude I see among people who decry TFA that anyone who actually likes what one person called "a spoon-fed crapfest" is an utter moron. I don't find it excessively derivative, despite callbacks. I don't find the story or characters stupid or weak. And it's not because I'm an idiot who will swallow anything. I can't stand the Trek reboots for many rational reasons, and my rant on those is longer than your initial post by a goodly bit. TFA, on the other hand... Saw the 7am showing today, and we've been discussing it ever since. Much analysis, much specificity. Acknowledgment of the things we found confusing or a bit let-down by, but far more the many, many elements -- and overall story -- that we like a lot and are very happy with. And not in a "we just turned our brains off and enjoyed the ride" kind of way. And we're definitely withholding judgment on those unanswered questions or iffy plot points until we see how the rest of this trilogy plays out. This is a serial, after all. Not all the questions are supposed to be answered in any one episode. If, at the end of it, something glaring was left hanging or there's some niggling contradiction, then we'll rail against it.

I hope you come to see things differently. If you want to find out how I interpreted all the things you commented on, publicly or privately, feel free to ask me. If I can, in any way, restore your enjoyment of Star Wars, I will always gladly do so. Me, I'm excited and looking forward to what's next.

Wow, wow, wow. Slow down there Reveal Master. TFA is a -1.7 We can agree to disagree on that like Gentlemen but Jedi rules. I know, most die hard fans like ESB best but to me the OT is just one six hour movie anyway but ROTJ rules. Yes the Ewoks were fun but looking back needed to be a little more badass to take on the empire. Yes the Luke/Vader saber fight was way to brief and yes Boba Fett dying that way, so easily, was stupid and at the time it was stupid, but ROTJ is actually my favorite.

I won't lie. Saying TFA is better than ROTJ hurts. It hurts and I don't hurt easy. Well usually I don't.

And this from the man who made the ultimate ROTJ saber. It feels like a betrayal:lol.

Well, exactly...I mean someone can't possibly have a different opinion. Something has got to be wrong!

In this case, they take it so personally. As though the thread was authored about them, while suggesting it's the the OP who craves attention! :lol

You see. We can disagree and get along fine,....no your are insane. You can't possib,.......all we have to do is make the effort to get along.

It's funny he said that about wanting attention because I was actually hoping someone else would start a TFA hate thread but I finally just could not take it and had to vent. I really did not want to do it because many months ago I started a thread for people who were not excited about TFA and were really worried about what we were seeing and a bunch of people got mad so I quietly asked the mods to delete it and they did. I did not even respond to any of it just asked it to go away.

Re: Star Wars TFA. Warning spoilers and I hate it!!! Haters and Lovers Welcome

I'm just a softy...like the nostalgia of visiting an old girl friend, but staying 30 minutes longer than I should've; it was a nice visit that turned ugly.
Still, it felt right (comforting and familiar) for a few brief moments here and there.

Would it make you feel better if I dialed it back to a flat 6? I mean, the Holiday special was a 1.7 for ****'s sake! :p

Now that I think of it, Chewy did get over Han pretty fast and let Rey jump right in his seat. Selfish wookie. Just looking for someone to let him out to do his business and scratch behind his ears...selfish space dog.

Still an Empire guy. Ewoks..I hate an Ewok. yub, yub...'nuff said.

Haha, what?

After I saw it the first time I would have given it an 8/10 now I'm more 7/10. After a second viewing? We shall see.

Things to look forward to hating in the sequel:
Family relationships revealed in cliffhanger ending
Kylos a cyborg ala Vader suit, same but different, he'll prob take on the name
Lando will still be running cloud city
Someone gets frozen in a block of shiny stuff
Snoke is smaller than yoda and an emperor clone

No worries Jonah. I have no problem with anyone who likes this or any other movie. I think Joe Versus the Volcano is a great film and I am not kidding. I love that movie. I seriously am happy that other people like or love the movie and would never tell them they are wrong and should hate it like me.

I have even learned to accept some people like Jar Jar. That was harder to accept but I did.

Still would have been cool if he was the real Phantom Menace. I do believe that was Lucas' original plan.

The Falcon being found like that and the dialog around it bugged me a bit but not that much. The other stuff begged me a lot more.

I already new the first shot of the Falcon was all CG. They only built the ramp and docking ring out there. A side note that bugged me.

I say if you love it love it and if you hate it like me,...well,...we are just out of luck.

Honestly I don't think I have posted on RPF as much in the last year as I have today.
