Star Wars Reboot (Old Republic Style)

I'm starting this thread for a simple what if forum. If George Lucas would ever let ANYONE do a true reboot, what would anyone want to see. Here are my ideas.

REALISTIC FILMING! I love Star Wars. Always have. I even like the prequels...to an extent. I think what hurt the films more so then the bad screen plays and so so acting was the fact that the films never came off as real. Although it's fantasy I want it to feel real and look real. That's why the old Indiana movies were so cool too. On site filming. The movies weren't 97% CGI like SW: ROTS. Make it real, as much as possible anyways. Maybe similar to what JJ Abrams did with Star Trek.

Start fresh, and start new. Darth Vadar and Luke are done with. Old story, thanks for telling it. Move on. A great place to tell this is to reboot it where there are TONS of stories to be picked from. Go back to when the Old Republic was. Show what true Sith and Jedi wars were like! If you want a story to tie into the current movies, what better books to make a trilogy out of......DARTH BANE!!!!!

They are deep, dark, and gritty stories. Yea, George Lucas may have to settle for a solid PG-13 rating and make the story a little less childish for a change, but at least for me...that's what a lot of fans have been waiting for. When we heard ROTS was gonna be PG-13 and dark and edgy, we were all like FINALLY! A kick ass Star Wars......Let down on that front.

My thoughts, Start new where you can branch off into other stories after Bane if you wanted to, but it ties in and explains the rule of two and shows how it used to be. Film it realistic. As much real live filming as possible, COMPLIMENTED, with CGI, not over done. Make it dark, edgy, and a serious story full of deep rooted emotion like the books had. Now that in my eyes, would be EPIC!

What's your thoughts on that or wants, wishes, dreams for a new Star Wars film if we could ever have one?

Lucas is done with Star Wars. He's said that many times in the past.

Personally, I think that if there's a reboot, it shouldn't be based on a book. There's no point in telling a story that's already been told, especially if it's in your own universe. No, I think that a reboot right around the KotOR era, or right after, is the right decision. The EU has bombed the Legacy Era into oblivion, and the NJO is boring after we've had thirty books about it. I think the next step is before the films, not after them.

I definitly agree with that. I could never get into the books after the films except the first 3. The way to go is the old republic like you said. So much to be told or so many directions that one can choose from. A 50-60 year old Luke isn't my idea of a good flick.

I read Lucas' latest basically saying that since the fans don't like his way of doing things he won't conform and do what the fans want. So if they don't want what he likes, then he just won't do them. Shame.

Technically speaking a movie based in the KOTOR era would not be a reboot as the events therein would occur thousands of years before the movies, so the mythology of the movies would likely remain unchanged. Also, I agree that the EU books that take place after ROTJ have turned into a bit of a slag heap but , as you are apparently unaware of the fact, that is irrelevant as the books that the OP mentioned take place well before the events of the movies…so any movie based on them would meet the requirement of occurring “before the films, not after them”.
On a slightly different note the statement that a movie “shouldn't be based on a book. There's no point in telling a story that's already been told” is a bit ridiculous. A large percentage of the movies that are produced are based on a book or series of books, as for example;
The Lord of the Rings trilogy
The Hobbit
Patriot Games
Dr. Strangelove
The Greenmile
And many, many more

So you really just registered to take a shot at someone? Nice going. :behave

With the cinematic trailers for SW:TOR I think it showed a gritty high paced action "movie" can be done...if even in that format. I still think it's the best 10+ minutes of Star Wars done in a long, long time.

I think it's long past time to let loose of the reigns to Star Wars and let someone else take a stab at it. Tell stories that haven't been told. It's a gold mine so why not keep the actual cinematic formula as a medium for the genre'. Video games and cartoons only satisfy fans in a niche' market while movies appeal to all. The cost must be the issue at hand....it always is. But if this years summer movies are already setting records (The Avengers) then why not another Star Wars film? Remember the hype prior to and during the Phamtom Menace release....it was insane. It could happen again. The payoff would merit the risk. No risk, no reward:cool

I loved the TOR trailers. I don't even want a movie, just KOTOR3. Not the MMO crap. Everything I read about that game shows it's everything I don't want to play.

The origin of the Jedi or something else like stories from the outer rim, would seam a good point from which to start a new story, KOTOR is a great story, but something else would be more fresh I think.

The Yuuzhan Vong should be in there somewhere, with there gigantic Bio-ships.It could have some movie impact if done in a right way.

Kotor could be great also , but more like an animated series of movies, so the story can be told without visual bounderies.Would want to see some Misteries of the Sith in there.

This. LA pumped everything they had into TOR, and from what I've heard, it's terrible, nowhere near the successful franchise they had in mind. Three years of ads, and this is what we got.

The ads are more enjoyable than the game. :facepalm

Whatever the story, Jedi should be more like Knights of the round table and less like do-gooder monks.

Best of all, some good old fashion make up artistry mixed in with the CGI. Lastly, show some skin,,,, a new slave lea

When I was little, I really wanted to know more about "The Jedi Knights" and their "for over a thousand generations stuff". What we saw post 1999 were a handful of Jedi who like to sit and chew the fat. I'd like to see pre-prequels back when the Jedi were forming. Back when they still had their balls.

I'd also like to see more regarding the industrial side of Star Wars; Incom, Industrial Automaton, and Sienar Fleet Systems. I wanted to see new x-wings, and I wanted to know where the rebels acquired their used ships.

GL needs to let someone else take a shot and over see the movie. He needs to not be scared of going gritty and making a PG-13 movie. That's why I think Bane would be a perfect place to go, hitting on some others comments. Jedi who were warriors and in their prime. Could get their hands dirty and knew what they were doing. Bane is dark and gritty and can still tie into the movies if u really needed to. Film it in a realistic setting and compliment it with CGI similar to TOR. Being able to see the big force pushes or things like that would be a cool addition.
