Star Wars Rebels - Concept Vader helmet now canon!

the dome on your efx doesn't look it's sitting on it all the way down, nice collection :) the efx is my fav

None of them really sit right on a table. Next step is to get stands and placards for them all.

The EFX is my least favorite actually. I had no intention of ever getting it until I managed to get ahold of the other two McQuarrie concepts (the two on the left). Once I added those two to my ESB Don Post (right) and the Reveal (front) I decided that I might as well go ahead and add EFX to the group.

I think a couple of great additions would be the "Funeral Pyre Meltie" version we see in the Episode VII trailer. Also I'd really love if someone made a REBELS Vader. I'm really liking that artwork.

You know you're not the only person whose said that to me, but I love it :p

I wish someone would cast the EFX RMQ Vader. I miss mine but was never nuts about the blue. I would kill for a nice kit.

Not sure if that would be okay with EFX as they are long out of production and this whole place is full of props cast from others?????????

Product out of production, company still around: recasting nono.

Company long (!) gone: : fair game.

At least last time I looked.
See the RPF policies about licensees and protecting their interests.

Okay, that is interesting. I did not know that. So if EFX tanks, and for the record I hope they don't. I had and hopefully will have again a lot of EFX products. I have spoken with Gino and Bryan both and like both very much, but if EFX went out of buisness or lost the SW license someone here could do a run of the EFX RMQ Vader and that would be okay???? Is that right???

My collection (so far) of Vader's Evolution.
L to R: Darth Stone McQuarrie Concept, JRX McQuarrie Concept, EFX McQuarrie Concept, Don Post ESB cast, unknown ROTJ Reveal Custom.

I'm still trying to acquire the concept made by someone named "Koo Koo" (seen on this page: http://www.starwarshelmets.com/mcquarrie-concept-darth-vader-helmets.htm )

I'd love it if someone made this animated version too!

Nice collection. you might want to look into the EFX LE or Legend Vader or SL Vader too.

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say that the characters and story being told in Rebels is canon but not the artwork. Vulcan logic dictates this to be the most likely scenario. Sorry, As far as I'm concerned, that concept Vader helmet is not canon until is shows up in officially made live action Star Wars movies or TV series. *runs and hides*

I love it but I already need you ANH, ESB, and upcoming ROTJ Quasimodos. Now if you do the full EFX style version, it's not like they own that version as long as it's not cast, then I will be needing four of your Vader helmets.

Still looking forward to seeing this one.

You guys rock!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'd venture to say it's extended canon, not quite movie canon, although the story does fall into the 20-year span between Episodes 3 and 4. My reason is that Rebels is a "cartoon" so the characters look cartoony and not truly life-life. Vader and the Stormtroopers are kind of cartoonified and I don't believe that in "real life" (from the perspective of the actual movies) their armor and helmets would not have appeared quite that way.

Thanks! I remember admiring images of the 3D model that became the eFX product. It was a lovely interpretation of McQuarrie's painted art. That being said, I think that as a real-world wearable object, the eFX design leans more towards an artistic concept and it's face is huge compared with that of ROTS and OT helmets. Let me see how well my Rebels Vader turns out first, as it's size and proportions will make it a decent cousin to the dimensions of my Quasimodo helmets. If it works out, and people find it not only wearable but it channels the character of Vader, I may consider a McQuarrie concept helmet as it's kind of similar to the Rebels design.

That would be sweet. I'll collect cans to get a EFX style version of a RMQ Vader made by you.

You are right about the size. When I had mine it was huge. I swam in it and I have a 25" megamelon. I think my eyes were well below the masks eyes but still it was an awesome helmet.

I still can't get over you ANH and ESB Vaders. We throw around "work of art" a lot here but they truly are. They are simply the best Vaders ever made and I don't think it's possible to top them.

Can't wait to see ROTJ and this Rebels version.

I'm taking my time with the Rebels because I'm diving down into subtleties of the LFL 3D model that I wouldn't have picked up with only casual study. i originally saw this as a cartoonified Vader, but the more I pour over details, screen captures, and study video footage frame by frame, I've come to appreciate how much this model channels the essence of the character - and add on top of that James Earl Jones' voice, I'm totally sent back to 1977. It's with this spirit that I want to give this helmet this the best possible outcome and not just a passing semblance.

Still working on it! Keep the faith! :thumbsup
