Star Wars Credits and Coinage - References and Recreation

Ok I know I’m late to the convo, but what if, the credit ‘cards’ in Luthian’s wallet are not solid metal, but brass laminate cut outs OVER an etched acrylic card. Like the detail parts on scale models sometimes. Laser cut then stuck over an already etched acrylic card so the transparency is retained? Seems feasible to me. Maybe even a chrome vinyl cut then some rub n buff or the like?

I recently got into 3D printing props finally and made some credits to go in my BSO camtono

There's a new version of Star Wars poker "Sabacc" in the "Outlaws" video game (releasing August 30, 2024). This new version uses "shift tokens" to perform actions during a hand. When you first start playing Sabacc in the game, you have access to three different types of tokens. See photo for a screen grab showing these tokens in the game.

Here's my version of the Kessel Sabacc Shift Tokens. When you first start playing Sabacc in the game, you have access to three different types of tokens: Free Draw, Refund, and General Tariff

They'll come in a twelve (12) piece set. Kessel Sabacc is played with up to four players, with four sets of each of the three types (Free Draw, Refund, and General Tariff).

The tokens are double sided and have embedded steel weights to give them some heft, increasing the realism without making them too heavy. They're magnetic!

There are a total of 16 different Shift Tokens in the game. Once they're all known (the game is released on August 30, 2024), I'll be releasing a different set of 16 that includes one of each type. I'll keep making the original 12-piece set because that's a nice starter set for 2-4 player games, giving you the flavor of the version found in the video game.

Star Wars Credits and Coinage

As I wasn't able to find any specific thread on the Credits and coins used throughout the Star Wars universe, I thought I'd start this thread.

The idea is to collect reference-material and share experiences for creating the different forms of currencies.
While there are single posts disseminated all over the forum, I found it hard to locate usable information with the available search-tools.
My plan is to update this first post with all shared photos and explanations to have everything in one place and make it easier for interested people to find the needed information.

So let's start!

Episode I - The Phantom Menace:

"Wupiupi"

Used on Tatooine (and other Outer Rim worlds).

(Pix from the Visual Dictionary)

Thoughts and findings: I didn't start with this one, because I'd deemed it the most important, but rather because (surprisingly) there's the greatest amount of official photos to be found.

The coin on the right (pictures show front and backside) has been identified as a "Yuzluk"-coin from the Ottoman Empire (Turkey, late 18th century).
Thanks to Mike J. !

Galactic Credit Chip

No idea where those were actually seen in the movies. That's the only official picture I found in the Visual Dictionary.

SOLO - A Star Wars Story

Fortunately quite a lot material of all the coins and creditbars used during the Sabacc-games!
I'll just quote a few posts from our Sabacc-thread, because those where the best closeup-pix so far.

While the coins with the Mythosaur-Symbol will surely be Mandalorian, I don't know if the smaller coin above is also a Mandalorian one.
Crystal Vertex - the nonagonal shaped coin with the crystal. I don't think the octagonal coin with the Aurabesh-credit-symbol will also be a Crystal-Vertex.
There are other coins with included crystals in the movie, so I guess those would rather be the other units belonging to this "family".

The Visual Dictionary doesn't offer too much on the distinction between different types of coinage.

The SOLO Movie posters provide some really nice closeups of the different coins and ingots (same types from multple angles! Great! ):

Somehow there seems to be a universal Star Wars rule that every single type of coin or ingot always comes in the exact same colors (gold, silver, bronze). I get why they did it from the optical point of view, though I don't think this is very logical.

Whatever - recreating those should be possible. (see later posts).

Star Wars - The Clone Wars

Galactic credit ingots

While those are the type of credits which where recreated the most by other fans, I've hardly been able to find good references. The only pic I got is this one:

If anyone has found other good references for the ingots, please share them here!
(The ones from SOLO look a little different...)

Star Wars Rebels

Republic Credit Chips

Seen in the episode "Idiot's Array" we got this type of credits in another game of Sabacc.

Star Wars money from licensed board games

There were some officially released bills and coins with different versions of Star Wars Monopoly.
While those are not related to any screen appearences, they are still added here for completeness.

(Thanks to division 6 and Mara Jade's Father for providing the info!)

There have been a number of different editions throughout the years. This is just a small selection:

That's what I got so far. Any additions and experiences would really be appreciated!
Hey folks,

I've been looking for reference photos for:
Episode I - The Phantom Menace for weeks:
"Wupiupi" Coins!!!!

Xou can find plenty of individual coins on the internet and here in the forum, but no screenshots from films, series, etc. where you can See how it used these coins as a reference.

Does anyone have a screenshot, or several, where you can see these coins in the films and series?

Thank you very much :)

Read the Behind the Scenes part of this page..

I know this homepage too. There you only see the coins as usual. But I would like to see the coins in the film or series, as a screenshot. ;)

Wookieepedia has all the places it has shown up: Wupiupi
I've seen it in "Star Wars: The Visual Dictionary" that I got from my local library:

Right, but did you actually read it, not just look at the images? I just thought the info was pretty interesting.
The infos are great, but I would like to see reference images from the movie (Screenshot). I find that much more interesting because everyone talks about the coins but no one has seen them in the movie.

The Wookieepedia article I quoted above said that that they appeared in Episode 2 of the Kenobi show on Disney+. They show up at 16:36 on a dice game table. The game is based on the Crown & Anchor/Spike game. Here's a playmat mimicking what's shown in the episode: Crown and Spike Mat daiyu Kenobi rules in Description - Etsy
They are being used for betting in the game. Here's 2 screenshots I took of that episode. You can clearly see them on the table.

There's a new version of Star Wars "Sabacc" (poker) in the "Outlaws" video game (releasing August 30, 2024). You "buy-in" to a game which consists of a series of rounds with three turns each. You start with a "bank" of Playing Chips at the beginning of the game (either 4 or 8 Chips depending on the size of the buy-in). You use these Chips to draw cards to try and improve your hand during each round. At the end of a round, if you have the best hand, you reclaim the Chips you spent. If you lose, you lose the Chips you spent plus a "tax" depending on how bad your hand is. You also have access a new element called a "Shift Token" to perform actions during a turn. The last player with Chips after a round is the winner of the buy-in. See photo for a screen grab showing these tokens in the game.

To compliment the Shift Tokens I've made, I'm now making a replica of the Playing Chips.

The Chips come in a sixteen (16) piece set. Kessel Sabacc is played with up to four players; each player receives the same number of Chips at the beginning of a game. So with 16 Chips, each of 4 players can start with 4 Chips . If you want to play a four-player higher buy-in game with 8 Chips/player, use two sets of 16 Chips.

The Chips are double sided and have embedded steel weights to give them some heft, increasing the realism without making them too heavy. They're magnetic!

Has anyone seen the Peggat, Aurei and Zemids currencies in a STAR WARS Episode or Series, which is to be used by Hutts on Tatooine ... especially this picture?
Peggats_and_aurei_and_zemids.jpg

They remind me of colored poker chips?!

I seem to remember seeing that picture (of spray painted poker chips) in one of the Star Wars Visual Guides or Encyclopedias, but I don't remember the caption or context for that picture.

In the Star Wars:Outlaws videogame, there's a new, smaller variation of the Clone Wars Republic Credit! They appear in the game in the buy-in pots at the Kessel Sabacc and other gaming tables (See photo 2).

On the left side of the third photo there's a closeup view of the new Republic Credits next to an Imperial Credit. On the right side of the second photo is a re-creation of those credits with the ones I make.

New "Old Republic Credits" showed up in the latest Skeleton Crew Trailer.
They look like crudely stamped gold bars.

They look like the die struck process like some of the pins and some other replica credits I had manufactured in the past when you do the polished finish instead of antiquing. That’s when you see the textured surface in the recessed area like these.
