Star Wars blu ray in September

I read on another forum that one of the reasons he doesnt want to release the original ANH edit is because his ex- wife Marcia who was one of the editors is entitled to a significant portion of the sales since they are divorced. Thats why he hasn't released the originals since the SE versions. Again, it all comes back to money.

That's ridiculous. What because 7 minutes of crap is added the rights to the rest of it changes?

Think man.

My theory is he is so pissed at her for the issue with the library dome architect, that he's defaced ANH to stick it to her, and stripped her from the SW history books.

I know, I am a wacko.

Unfortunately we're a niche group of people out there who DO notice these problems.

Also the mass majority of average viewers aren't gonna be able to see these major screw ups.

Heck when I worked retail years ago I had people bringing back DVDs saying something was wrong with the picture in that the screen had been cut off by black bars on the top and bottom. And then I step in to explain what theatrical aspect ratio is. They still wanted the one that filled the whole screen (back in the day when there was full and wide screen choices).

Morons.

She did help edit the first movie, so why not make ANH the most edited of the three movies?

Remember Gary Kurtz? He directed the Wampa cave sequence in the Empire Strikes Back. A very effective and suspenseful sequence for what this movie was trying to be. Now Lucas ruins it all by actually showing the Wampa in clear detail for no good reason.

And poor Irvin Kershner. He said in his commentary that Lucas told him that this was his movie, yet Lucas is changing everything to fit his views like he was the director.

Yes, there is a very good reason.

He was thinking of merchandizing Wampa action figures.

children and collectors had to know what Wampa actually looked like.

Look the SE were made as an experiment to see if the tech matched the "vision" for the prequels.

THE END.

No conspiracy to ruin your childhood or sell toys.

It's not like people didn't buy Star Wars toys before.

I'd like to know why the artwork for these films declined so badly over the years?

There was SO much to choose from in making the saga packaging and out of a gazillion options they decided to go with this crappy looking sketchy unfinished artwork of the Tatooine sunset and Anakin/Luke drawing.

Do you know how slick it would have looked to just have had a matte black box outer package with metallic lettering that just simply said "STAR WARS The Complete Saga" and that's it.

This was originally the placeholder thumbnail images used on Amazon, right? Sometimes less is more and in this case this packaging just doesn't stand out strongly at all.

Does Lucas just approve this stuff or is there a department that votes on it or what? Surely this wasn't the best of all the ideas put on the table.

I hear what you're saying about the packaging, however, i think the black box with metal letters is just TOO obvious. That's why it's the first thing i, and you, thought of.

Yeah, the artwork over the years got worse, it actually went from decent art to crappy photoshop collages which we've had for a LONG time now.

I'm actually starting to like the new artwork. At least it is art. And original at that. Oh, and i just noticed in the Vader one, that Dagobah makes up one eye and Wampa cave the other! Quite clever!

The Struzan posters are iconic and should be used for the DVD. Some might argue that's too plain, but look at the original OT VHS tapes with the Struzan art versus, say those LAME half face VHS or the APPALLING photoshop montage on the DVD releases.

As Hamill has also noted, she wasn't afraid to tell George if he was headed in a questionable direction. Dale Pollock writes, "only Marcia is brave enough to take Lucas on in a head-to-head dispute and occasionally emerge victorious."

BAM!!!!!

I can't be the only one still looking forward to buying this and enjoying a sit-down marathon.

If so, then I am going to help Lucas destroy your childhood...happily.

Heres a question:

If Lucas is so dead against the OT 'as was', what prompted him to release the laser disc version with the previous SE release??

See, my theory on GL has always been that he is so sheltered from what people actually think about the SE and Prequels, that he truly believes that the SE is what people like.

However, for this to be true, there would be no real reason for realsing the Laser disc OT. So someone somewhere must have told him that that is what people want...

So what really promted the 'bonus' laser disc versions?

He hoped it would shut people up. It didn't. Until we get a properly remastered, correctly colored release of the original versions, Lucas won't get another dime from me.
