Star Wars blu ray in September

Come, on! Maybe there is a story behind that artwork.
Like it was from a Make-a-Wish kid or something?
Or one of Lucas's kids?
So sad. I mean, I really like Star Wars and the sequels.
Both of them!
What happened?
Meanwhile, I will probably not be able to resist having them on Blu-Ray HIgh Definition, just for looking at details of stuff.

Davy Jones: I really like that art, except that Luke has a bad haircut and he should, to my mind, be at least as prominent as Princess Leia. And more prominent than Lando. And Tarkin... In that, he sort of disappears into Vader/Kin's shadow.
I agree with these statements. There COULD be a story behind the new covers. I personally don't really like them, but they don't offend me either. In a way it's nice to see new art instead of tiresome photoshopped montages like the one above.

That art is crap. I would love it if they made new art like this picture below.

Then I know its lazy but they should just use the original poster art for the individual discs.

At least its better than the awful look they chose. Two thumbs way down...

This art is better, yes, but still not great; prequel figures looming larger than OT heroes and where in hell is Alec Guinness? He's been dumped completely!!! Han, as just about the most charismatic element in all SW, should be far bigger, and I need an image of Luke the farmboy, though preferably not as some slack-shouldered, uninspired schlub getting ready to scratch his butt as he's shown on the bluray box.

Looking again at the content on the discs... 50 years from now when dvds are history people are gonna look at that Making Of documentary from '77 that's included on this bluray and wonder what those motion control X-wing and TIE dogfight shots are... Any '77 TIE and X-wing dogfight* shot not in the Making Of doc will be lost to history at this rate (not a single one remains in the SE). I'm taking REAL good care of my theatre release dvds. Looks like they may have to last us the rest of our lives. Happy Star Wars Day indeed.

*By 'dogfight', I mean the preliminary tussle with the TIES before the trench runs start.

Seriously though, they have Drew Struzan's number; Why in the hell have these images even been considered? Did Jet Lucas paint them or something?

The OT one is definitely better than the others, and also better than the recent DVD covers, in that it contains relatively unmolested photos of Guinness and Ford ( though Ford's barely in frame and very, very small), so this one at least is a step back in the right direction, though I could easily do with less Revenge of the Sith Vader, a bigger farm-boy Luke, a much smaller Palp, and fewer Jackson Pollock action-painting splashes ( what is it with all this naff artsy referencing? Note also how the Empire doc blurb refers to Lucas et al. as 'the masters'... I smell fresh delusions of grandeur at the Ranch...).

when I saw the art work on the blu ray DVD box set I was disappointed with the overall look.

Fingers crossed HMV will provide a nice box set case/sleeve like they did when the SW trilogy was released a while ago on DVD.

Well I hope there will be a different sleeve to get for the saga box, otherwise I'll make one myself.

You'd think a release like this would feature awesome artwork to get new people interested in buying it. Frankly if I never saw Star Wars before and saw that box in a shop, I would think they were the most boring six movies money could buy.

The two trilogy boxes look better, but still look like someone printed out photos of each character, ate them, then barfed them all out over two cases...

Look, this should prove it conclusively. They just don't give a damn anymore.

But I repeat myself.

Until they release the real movies, I'm not wasting my money. Which probably means I'll have my money for the rest of my life. YAY... my money.

He hasn't killed my inner child, that's for sure, but I will say that even casually paying attention to the direction of the Star Wars franchise in recent years has very much diminished my enthusiasm for the franchise, and even the original films to some degree. I don't feel the desire to pop 'em in and watch 'em anymore the way I used to, in any version. I suppose I'd feel differently if there was a lovingly restored archival DVD/Blu-ray version of the OT, but the laserdisc rips are just "meh" for me. Nice to have, but not what I want to demo my home theater with, and the SEs leave me cold.

Some of you are pretty close in a sense as far as the story behind the art that was picked. I follow Katie Lucas on Twitter and this is what she had to say on May the 4th:

KRLgrrl Katie Lucas
Fun fact: I helped pick out the box art for the blu ray! YOU'RE WELCOME.

Personally I don't mind the artwork.

Well said, Solo... very, very well said.

I never imagined it'd be this way but it's gotten to the point where I rarely care enough even to contribute to any Star Wars discussion anymore.

I was reading some of the pro/anti rantings on the 'news' story posted on syfy's blastr.com and it's just sad. Some guys say "you're just being negative but I know you'll buy it too"... but the truth is, I won't. Truly and honestly at this point, the 2004 Punisher movie is much, MUCH higher on my list of BluRays to buy.

I'd never say Lucas "raped my childhood" or say that Lucas is not completely within his rights to do whatever he wants with his property but since I'm neither a fan of extended universe stuff nor the prequels, all of the controversy and unwillingness of Lucas to release the one single thing I want, has left me with a nearly non-existant enthusiasm for the entire Star Wars franchise.

Just speaking for myself, this cow has been milked to the point that there's nothing left but bad blood.
