Star Wars Blaster HELP PLEASE

Hello I recently bought a toy star wars blaster toy as seen in the link below all the way at the end. Anyway I would like some ideas as to painting it to make it look realistic. I will be using it for a Boba Fett costume, I know it is not accurate to Boba Fett's gun/blaster but it is what I could afford. I plan on spray painting it and just was wondering if anyone had any tips for me on how to paint it. Any kind of paint you recommend over another? Should I sand it down? I want it to look like it came from the movie. I also plan on painting it black and aging it a little bit. So any tips would be helpful. I will also post pictures up of before and after when I am done. Thanks

I used the rustoleum for plastics paint on mine and it came out looking okay. If I were to do it again, I would give it a light sanding, put down a few coats of metallic paint, then a coat of flat black. For the aging, just add some light scuffs to the surface with some various strips of sandpaper to bring out the bottom coats.

If you have time, I highly recommend adding the doopydoos kit to your blaster. It'll make it look that much more movie accurate.

Good luck :)

Yep, the doopydoos kit is great and very easy to put on. For the aging, I used a silver metallic for the body and gold met for the scope (the orginal scope was brass) for the undercoat, then a satin black topcoat. Sanding and light touch ups make it come out great. You can also gut the scope out and add led's if you like, but I just added a simple car reflector.

yep am out to buy a hasbro blaster tonight and ordering my doopydoo's later this evening as well. ( i love saying doopydoo). Easiest method I've seen and cheapest.

Shooter from ontario...nice! where bouts?

erm... has anyone pointed out that thats a stormtrooper blaster, and the Spotted wants to do a Fett?

it may have been better using this HASBRO - Star Wars Boba Fett Blaster

although the jury is still out on whether it would make a good blaster as it is smaller than the real prop

I am in the process of extending the stock to make the whole thing looks more to scale within the toy itself, although in absolute terms, it will be abt 3 inches shorter than the MR version. Personally I think it would be a great trooping blaster. PLUS it makes a great pew pew pew sound!!!

if you are gonna continue with the blaster you got - definately get the doopy doos kit. I would also sand down the entire prop, nothing heavy, maybe a 240 or 400 grit so the paint holds better. Primer, silver, satin black. Scratch back the black to get the silver showing through.

alternatively - primer, satin black. sand to weather it down a little, dry brush silver to get that silver showing through effect.

Re: Star Wars Blaster HELP PLEASE

I love it! I thought I was the only (you fill in the blank) that did that kind of thing till I ran across this site.

I just converted the "Clone Commander Blaster" From the silly white to a more respectable Gun Metal and Black.

1rst I washed it. (Remove the electronics - or BE REAL careful) using Steel wool pads it gives the surface grit so paint will adhere to it. Then a light sanding. I use Krylon Plastic bond gray primmer. This stuff it made to bond with plastic and it does a great job. No white showing though.
2nd I assembled it and super glued it in the configuration I liked and added a few little mods to it. I painted it over all with "TAMIYA GUN METAL". I own a few real firearms and this color is the closest color for an off the shelf product to match them without having to mix paint. (I get lazy) "TAMIYA LIGHT GUN METAL" is a great match to the scuffed edges that will show from heavy use. Spray some in the can top and apply it with a dry brush technique. I'll try and post a shot of the finished "Clone Commander Blaster" in a few. Good luck and I hope this helped.

Hi Sloth-

Boba's EE-3 blaster toy can be had here; judging from the soda can in Heatshock's pic, I'm guessing it to be around 2/3 scale...

Ebay item # 250709505731

It does have potential, if for nothing else but to accurize it for a cheap scaled display piece...

How is the size comparison of the Clone trooper blaster and Stormtrooper blaster to the real thing???

Anyone got pics of them next to 1:1 scale props??

Thanks

I know the Hasbro blasters are shorter than the screen used counterparts and I think the barrel is a little thicker on the Hasbro.

I've heard the DC-15 short is smaller in all dimensions. The DC-15 long kit is about a foot or two shorter than the screen used prop.

heres a pick from another thread on here some where:

thats a completely unmodded just repainted Hasbro next to a original Webley casting

theres also a great piccie I took from another thread - not sure if its on here or on TDH; think it was a guy in the Emerald Garrison who posted it originally (@original photo-taker-guy - I will take it down if you pm me mate!)

my extended stock is about 10.5 inches - so overall, I lose abt 3 inches from the estimate piccies on TK409's site
- 1 inch from the stock
- 2 inches from the pistol and barrel end

so I would say abt 15% smaller overall, and not as big as 30%. But as has been mentioned the barrel is wider, proportions slightly out

heres me holding it whilst I got animated clone armor on, bearing in mind I am 5'10'' and abt 90kg

a little small in hand, and barrel is a little snub nosed; but I would say very definately troopable

which is better, blaster wise, the legacy storm trooper, the storm trooper from the 90's, or the clone trooper
