Star trek: The next generation 25 anniversary

In other news, Season 2 of The Next Generation on BluRay has been announced!

CBS DVD and Paramount Home Entertainment have today announced that Star Trek: The Next Generation - Season 2 is coming to high-def Blu-ray Disc format on December 4th. This 5-disc set stars Patrick Stewart, Jonathan Frakes, LeVar Burton, Brent Spiner, Michael Dorn, Marina Sirtis, Wil Wheaton, and introduces to the cast both Whoopi Goldberg as "Guinan" and Diana Muldaur as "Dr. Pulaski." Also, "Chief O'Brien" (Colm Meaney) becomes a regularly recurring character during this season. This is also the season where The Borg are first introduced to the Trek universe.

Guest stars include Billy Campbell, Joe Piscopo, Teri Hatcher, William Morgan Sheppard, Suzie Plakson, Chris Latta, Brian Thompson, Mädchen Amick, Carolyn Seymour, Noble Willingham, John Tesh, Nikki Cox, John de Lancie, Robert Costanzo, Majel Barrett, Carel Struycken, Mick Fleetwood, Lance LeGault, Anne Ramsay, and Armin Shimerman. This season, shortened due to a strike in Hollywood, only came to 22 episodes (the final one consisting mostly of clips from earlier episodes). Still, it contained a number of fan-favorite episodes such as "Elementary, Dear Data," "The Measure of a Man" and "The Emissary." As there was with the first season set, the studio plans to hold a theatrical screening event in December promoting the Star Trek: The Next Generation - Season 2 Blu-ray Disc release (details are forthcoming).

Cost is $129.99 SRP. Here's a list of included bonus material (which consists of both extras from previous DVD release of this title, plus new items produced for this Blu-ray version), followed by the packaging and a pre-order link:
  • Promos
  • Gag Reel
  • Featurette: Archival Mission Log: Departmental Briefing Year 2: Production (SD)
  • Audio Commentary with Dan Curry, Don Berman and Mike Okuda
  • Audio Commentary with Melinda Snodgrass and Robert Scheerer
  • Featurette: Reunification: 25 Years After The Next Generation (HD)
  • The Measure of a Man (HD Extended Version)
  • The Measure of a Man (Hybrid Extended Version)
  • Featurette: Archival Mission Log: Inside Starfleet Archives: Penny Juday - Star Trek Coordinator (SD)
  • Featurette: Making It So: Continuing The Next Generation (HD)
  • Archival Mission Log: Selected Crew Analysis Year 2 (SD)
  • Archival Mission Log: Mission Overview Year 2 (SD)
  • Archival Mission Log: Departmental Analysis Year 2: Memorable Missions (SD)

Various sources have reported that the commentary tracks will be for episodes "Measure of a Man" and "Q Who". Although I have to ask. Who the heck is Don Berman?? And if anyone has been following Robert Meyer Burnett on Twitter, it sounds like the list of bonus features will include more than what is listed here, such as discussions about the canceled Star Trek Phase 2 series (which will include test footage) and how some episodes of Season two were adapted from the scripts to that series.

It REALLY would have to be a BIG, HUGE, MASSIVE improvement for me to buy the set. You know...this could be every Trekkies Star Wars dilema!!

And that my dear sir is just a taste. Imagine what all of this would look like in motion and on a bigger screen. I would NOT think of this as a dilemma.

Excellent. I'm about half-way thru Season 1. Although I don't think the cost will be $129.99, more like around $85-$90.

As a side note, for those of you in Canada; I picked up the Star Trek Original Motion Picture Collection on Blu-Ray today for $36.19 at Best Buy. Currently Future Shop has it for $44.99 on their website. I price matched and used a $5 BB Rewards coupon to bring it down to $36 from $82.99. :cool:thumbsup

I'm still on cloud 9 after meeting all principal cast members of TNG earlier this year.

Wait...you mean the tractor bean and the torpedo launcher are NOT in same place??? LOL!!

Specifically the Enterprise does look awesome. I bet the later seasons will look even better. I think I'll have to hold out for seasonal fan favorites like Best of Both Worlds.

I totally agree. The episodes they released to theaters last month looked absolutely spectacular too. The quality and care of this restoration is really, really good.

The sampler disc already showed some episodes from latter seasons. It does look even better. I believe it was about the third season that they learned how to light the show. With the difference in lighting, everything really pops.

I'm wondering about Best of Both Worlds though... actually... Q Who (which will be in this coming season). I can't imagine that Borg ship model holding up very well in HD. If you really look at it... now that we have larger screens... it kind of doesn't hold up so well in just SD :unsure It becomes a bit more obvious that it's made of model kit spruces... and in certain scenes it looks... I'm not sure... flat... like a cheap matte painting. I'm not sure of the cause of that though.

i guess this is probably one of the few instances were a upgrade would be a good thing. replacing the borg cube with the one from first contact.
