I have been collecting parts for the last couple of months and finally got the parts to the builder. Here are a few progress pictures of the build so far.

Here is a screen cap from the show...

Suggestions & Comments welcome.

Awesome, I love projects like this. The grid (can this version be called a grid?) looks fantastic. The only thing it looks like you need to do is make the hinges thicker to match the "screen used" model and the metal all needs to be gold.

If I had thought about it at the time, I would have requested it. I'm not sure if it would have worked out or not due to the parts coming from different sources though. If I have another build done, I will take that suggestion back to the lid builder. He told me that one would probably be the one and only one he does like that - without holes.

I like it. Projects like this can be very cool. The thickness of the wheels doesn't bother me so much. The shape of the screencap comm looks like it's all parallel, instead of tapered like the real thing anyway, so a little license isn't so bad. Very nice.

I like it.
I would love to see more TAS props done.
I think TAS gets overlooked due to some people's views on TAS or because it's animated.

Wow, that's clever, and well done. I'd always assumed it was just a simplified drawing of what it "really" looked like, but hey, looking at it this way opens up a new area of custom propmaking. Bring it on. :)

Very unique prop idea.

If you do a few of these, I'd be in for one.

Maybe you can go with a brass mid-plate rather than aluminum.

For clarification, I just collected the parts from various sources and someone else is doing the build not me. I really do not know if anymore will be built.

BTW - The Mid-Plate will be brass before the build is finished.

Someone over at The Trek Prop Zone is working on a phaser 1 from the animated series. It would be cool to get one of those and one of these comms.

I need some input on the moire placement. Do you like it where it is. It matches the screen capture perfectly. I was wanting it done like TMOST Communicator picture and that is just my preference.

The TAS comm was obviously based on the famous TMOST communicator photo (the "Gamma" comm for Herocomm.com readers), so that's a good place to start with a replica.

Great idea, and awesome exectution.
