TNG Bridge and a few other areas...

Here's my pointer

I think thats the one that came back from planet hollywood covered in bacon grease and holes drilled into it so it could hang from the ceiling.

The nacelles were both broken off, i'm glad to see they at least had it somewhat repaired to display at the exhibit.

Would love to see TNG bridge. I wish they would have done more Voyager stuff, especially the bridge. The 4' 1701D sure has seen better days, the warp engines look like they were broken off at one point. You would think they would hang the models more delicately or at the least display them how they were originally mounted.

The one on display at the PH in Beverly Hills had markings of a ship other than the Enterprise.

Not sure if its the BH PH you refer to though...

There was only one person dressed up when I was there but since there was only about 15 people I guess that's a decent percentage. It was a woman dressed in Next Gen duds.

So what's the story on the USS Venture, there? :confused

How big is it? Is it a backdoor copy of the Galaxy Class Enterprise filming miniature?

A separate model made for DS9?

Replica made after cancellation?

Karl, I don't know the series well enough to answer. May have been a Deep Space 9 model.

What I can say is this -- the photo is about 10 years old. The model is of the 4-foot variety.

that would have been the enterprise with just another name stenciled on it for filming, surely used in ds9 big battle scene.

My understanding was that was the biggie, not the 4'. It was recovered prior to Generations and had to be renovated.

I don't know the full story myself. I do know there were supposed to be three miniatures of the 1701-D: a 2-foot miniature built in 1987 by ILM for that "rubberband-snap" effect where the ship goes to warp, and the main 6-foot miniature also built in 1987.

A few seasons into the series Greg Jein built a 4-foot miniature because the big one was too unwieldy and they wanted more surface detail, such as the raised "plating" detail which shows up under side-lighting.

For "Generations" (made immediately following the wrap of season 7 of TNG) the 6-footer was dusted off and repainted.

I had heard that one of the miniatures had been hung in a restaurant and had had gotten greasy. I had always thought that was the 4-footer tho.

At some point after the time of the filming of "Generations" the 6-footer had the 1701-E designation put on it, but as we know a new ship was designed for the next film instead

However when the 6-footer was sold in the big Christies' auction in 2006, she still had her Generations lifeboats and battle damage, but the 1701-D markings had been restored.

If that model with "USS VENTURE" markings is the real 4-footer that was used in TNG, it must have seen some service as an effects model in DS9 at some point.

I'll copy and paste the pictures from the long beach display and send it to both Penny Juday and Mike Okuda for identification and let you guys know what they say.

And a question remains - is the PH Venture the same model that is now at Long Beach?

Thanks for posting the pictures, they really made my morning.

Do you get to take pictures on the bridge sets with a standard ticket or did you have to buy one of the more expensive ones?

here is the response i just got from Mike Okuda:

I had asked him which of the models came back from PH with broken nacelles as it was penny that asked him to come down to the archive and I.D. the model.

His reply:

Thanks for the note. You're speaking of the 4' Enterprise-D miniature, which was refurbished a little for Star Trek: The Tour.

Orbs?

that is totally silly. I don't understand why people leap to such incredible preposterous conclusions.

It is clearly "Q"!
