Star Trek movie (2009) tricorder - Playmates toy version

I got the Playmates movie tricorder at TRU. It's molded in dark gray plastic, with contrasting sections on the front, sides, and back in highly reflective metalized plastic. I wonder if this toy is actual size compared to the movie prop? In any case, you push a button on the left side and the tricorder top and front panel doors pop open---this also engages lights and sounds. There are two buttons behind the front panel door and when either is pressed activate numerous lights and "scanning" sounds. It may look like a toy, but I gotta admit the lights and sounds are pretty cool. Here's a few pix.

Cool. I actually really like that. Is the "Tricorder" text a sticker? I know a lot of folks around here were worried about that detail :lol

Yes, that is a "TRICORDER" sticker on the front. Also, on the back of the thing is a huge legalese sticker about complying with FCC rules. The stickers are easily removable. The phaser toy also has the legalize sticker, but these are on the mirrored parts of the toys and they don't stand out.

Thanks for the info :)

Personally, I don't mind the "Tricorder" text but I know quite a few people were saying things like "It'd be cool if it didn't say Tricorder on it" :lol

Looks really cool. Are any of the details on the top, under the 'hood' lights, or are those just stickers?

The "alpha" readout panel is one big sticker. The tricorder toy has five blinking lights--three on the front in the metalized section and two behind the front panel door.

And here I am, ordering from a local comic shop which I know would charge me more than double.

Still, I could not help thinking about those fancy cigarette holders I saw when I was a kid....... :lol

Found all the new toys at Toys R Us in the Richmond, VA area. Not bad... The store I checked out only had one tricorder. Tons of comms and quite a few phasers though.

Is it just me? Or does the first sound effect sound like Fred Flintstone trying to throw a strike while bowling! :lol

Really? The local TRU usually sucks but when I went in today the shelves were overflowing with Trek and Terminator stuff.

We need one of our trek graphic guys to make a professional looking replacement graphic to use. I think I'm gonna replace the front with an aluminum plate (unless the real one is actually chrome)
