Star Trek: Lower Decks

you know what at this point I could go to an alternate universe and come back with seasons four and five of TOS and people would watch them and complain complain gripe complain and whine. just go back to re-watching TOS/STNG and don’t bother watching anything new. The lower decks concept is brilliant. tell me do you think if you were on a Saladin class destroyer with one strict patrol area life would be at its Starfleet bestest? The lower deck concept is absolutely right somebody Has to do boring maintenance. swab the deck and scrub the head as they would say in today’s navy. somebody has to make second contact, hammer out the treaties etc. that’s exactly what this show is about. unfortunately some people just can’t conceive of the fact that every Starfleet ship out there is going to deserve to have its registry number perpetuated with an A-B-C etc. and heaven forbid there be some humor in the Star Trek universe the whole thing with the Pacleds, basically a world of “Idiocracy“ level individuals suddenly becoming a galactic powerhouse is freaking brilliant their ships screaming “red alarm red alarm“ While their lower deckers basically look like extras in a Cheech and Chong movie had me busting a gut.

Exactly. Not every ship in Starfleet is the Enterprise, or the Excelsior, or the Titan; and not every captain is a Kirk, Picard, Sulu, or Riker. It only makes sense that there would be ships in Starfleet that don't get the glamorous jobs and not every captain is in the top tier of Starfleet captains and destined for greatness.

I think that too many people who are complaining about this show can't seem to look past the humor and the animation style. If you look past these things you'll find that this show is very Trek-like at its core, much more so than anything that's come out since at least when Enterprise went off the air. The S2 finale in particular is probably one of the best Trek shows ever written, live action or animated. Sure, it had its moments of humor, but that's part of what this show is about, the funnier side of Trek. But the core of the story was everything that makes a good Star Trek series so good.

And…Mariner is now gay too. What a shocking move!

When inclusion becomes inclusive, it makes it meaningless.

Just one more thing the producers don’t get.

I don't see anything wrong with Mariner being potentially (she could very well be bi). It's not like they ever firmly established that she was straight and/or vehemently not gay/bi. And thinking of it, they've kind of hinted that Mariner might be gay/bi ever since they introduced the Jennifer character.

True. And I really don’t care either way. I don’t need to know about any of their sexualties whatever their proclivity is.

I’m watching for pew, pew, pew, not Lady and the Tramp.

Fair enough, but her sexual preferences did play a part in this episode and weren't just thrown in to show people that she likes girls. Her liking Jennifer played a part in both her fantasy and nightmare and I thought that it worked very well for that. I can't imagine bringing anything else up for fantasy and nightmare fuel for her that would have been half as funny,

Great season overall. Finale was a real treat.
I agree. I thought that the season started a bit slow but after around ep .3 or 4, the season really picked up. I really enjoyed the season finale and thought that it was the best episode of the season, if not the series. It was some of the best Trek that I've seen in a long time and I got really excited during the final battle. I will have to say that these last 2 episodes had some pretty dark moments in it with people actually being shown dieing in them.

USS West Covina! Obviously, Rachel Bloom gets cast as the Captain if we ever see the crew.
I loved that we learned the names of other CA class ships and I really like how they didn't name them all after better known CA cities. All they were missing was a USS Compton.

Okay, I got a notification for some reason that this thread was updated, but I'm not seeing anything newer than a year old. However, I did see these comments, and I'm really trying to understand it, but I'm having a difficult time doing so, so I wanted to throw in my 2 cents.

"When inclusion becomes inclusive, it makes it meaningless." Did you mean when it becomes "exclusive"? If so, I still don't see how that's in anyway what's occurring in the show. Mariner is a woman, and she has a girlfriend... so what? You never hear anyone complaining when a character develops a relationship with someone of the opposite gender, but as soon as they're the same gender, there's always a cacophonous roar of people crying "forced diversity" or "forced inclusivity". No, it's just art reflecting life. Star Trek was always about striving for equality, and it continues to do so, which brings me to my next point.

Why are you watching Star Trek, out of all the sci-fi programs about space exploration, when you seem to not enjoy it when it's being Star Trek? You don't seem to bring up an issue with Riker being in a relationship with Troi, or Crusher with Picard, or Kira with Odo, or any of the other notable straight relationships in the universe. It's when the show goes against the status quo that you bring up things like this. If you truly don't need or want to know about the character's sexualities "whatever their proclivity is", failing to bring forth your feelings when it's about character's in straight relationships would be (as Spock says) illogical.
