Just bought the download for my tablet. Watched it again, there are some weak story moments, but overall, it was not as bad as I remembered it being. Maybe my initial bias against it was stronger than my ability to watch it for what it was. I stand on my assessment of the Lone Ranger though!

Forgiving the fact that your comment sounds like you don't respect anyone's opinion if they don't like what you like, do you really want to stick to the idea that people who don't a Star Trek movie and discuss it on the internet can cause harm to the whole franchise? I have yet to see a single news report where a movie is green lit or shot down based on some comments from an internet forum. If bad talking a franchise on the internet had any effect at all, we wouldn't have gotten the last Transformers movie, the Twilight sequels or the Saw sequels. I really, really doubt anything I've said here on the RPF will have any impact on a future Star Trek movie made by Bad Robot.

The only thing that hurts this franchise is not spending any money on it. Thankfully, there are several different ways fans can support this franchise that doesn't just involve JJ's movies. I've been buying all the new BluRay discs of TNG (Including the single disc BluRays) that have been coming out, I've purchased several electronic ship models from Diamond Select, the Star Trek Titanium Alloy Spork and even the Enterprise Pizza Cutter. Yet despite everything being paid in full, even a full price ticket in order to see STID in the theater, I'm being labeled as someone who is doing a disservice to the franchise for talking negatively about STID. You're welcome.

And kialna, there is nothing in what you said that makes me think you don't deserve to be a Trekkie. I understand exactly where you're coming from and I would not direct any hate towards you as a person or as a fan. There is literally NOTHING in that long post that bothered me. And I know it's easy to see someone like me as a fan who thinks that everything Star Trek before Trek09 should be sacred, but I'm not. I'm a Trekkie who is not afraid to admit that I hate about HALF of all things Star Trek. There are things in TOS that I hate, there are a lot of things in TNG that I hate, there are movies that I hate overall and there are even things in DS9, my favorite Star Trek series, that I hate. Yet I still regard Star Trek to be one of my all time favorite franchises out there. The whole universe has so much potential to really be something great that even with all the bad episodes, movies and technobabble, it's still there. I'll even say that potential is in this new take, even though it's stuck with writers who are probably bound by Box Office law to not go anywhere near it.

Exactly! The franchise survived for forty six years with fans continually debating the pros and cons of every episode and every movie. Wanting to discuss certain elements of a particular movie is not necessarily crapping on it or doing it a disservice(?).

Fans have always found various elements they didn't like about a certain movie or series but the franchise keeps on going. I think it can and will survive a few contrary opinions on a prop forum without getting a boo boo. Anyone who loves anything and everything about Star Trek simply because it is Star Trek has a screw loose in my opinion. It's not all good.

Between all the arguing and stuff...this set looks amazingly fun. If you've seen how they built the enterprise, that was amazing. But this...honestly, Simon Pegg deserves an award for this. We heard the stories, we laughed at the interviews, but here it is.

This might help in lightening up your day. Quinto's giggling, Pine's victory screech and the embarrassment of those involved make me laugh every time.

Because when Star Trek is bad, it gets really, really bad. You think a writer can screw up the concept of Evolution to the point where it's depiction cannot possibly be associated with evolution? Watch the Enterprise episode "Dear Doctor". Want to see William Shatner write and direct a slap stick comedy about the search for God? Watch Star Trek V. Want to see an episode that establishes Starfleet as a sexist organization that doesn't allow women to become Captains of a Starship? Watch the episode written by Gene "HUMANITY IS PERFECT IN THE FUTURE!" Roddenberry himself, "Turnabout Intruder". How about a planet completely inhabited by black people who openly kidnap female officers against their will and force them to fight to the death in a spectator watched arena. Yep. In all of Star Trek, black people get only one planet and it was that one. Or how about a sexually motivated three way mind rape scene? Watch... No. Don't watch that one.

I hate that crap.

I'll take a LOT of flak on this from everyone but I still think that V is full of great scenes. Surrounded by a lot of crap, but there are diamonds in there and it's truer in some ways to the spirit of Trek than the great TOS films like TWOK (Journey to an unexplored area, new life form, moral high standing). It took a risk. It failed in many regards but the fact that it took that risk sets it above STID for me.

Don't get me wrong, I don't dislike STID. I just found it "run of the mill". I can definitely see why people would consider it better and they're not wrong, I just have different personal criteria.

I *WILL* say that there's no reason on Earth that it should have come under Nemesis or Insurrection. Again, in my personal opinion.

I concur. In fact, in my opinion Star Trek V: The Final Frontier is a better movie overall than Star Trek III: The Search for Spock. Shatner takes a lot of flak for STV, but if Paramount had given him more support and less interference it could have been a much better movie.

Star Trek: Nemesis is not only the worst Star Trek movie, but it's one of the worst movies I've ever seen. No insult intended towards those who like it, I'm simply not among you.

Getting back to the topic of the "heated" debates present in this thread, if nothing else it proves Star Trek fans, old and new, are passionate about the franchise and want to see it continue.

Are there any good pictures of the STD Klingons yet? Watching the movie last night and pausing on him, it looks like they have pointed ears too, though in a different orientation. There are several ripples or waves in the skull rather than the ridges of before. And why on earth (Or Kronos) would a warrior race be covered in piercings? Why give the enemy something to grab a hold of and rip off of you during battle?

Although I enjoyed this movie, I recently tried to explain what happened in the movie to a co-worker, which I was quite shocked about.....I couldn't.....It made no sense......now I realise the film wasn't really that great

Why give the enemy something to grab a hold of and rip off of you during battle?

To be fair, there have been a ton of different ridge styles since TMP. The main Klingon in STID has a distinctive look, but not so much that it would have been out of place in the Prime universe (minus maybe the piercings.) I kind of like the look.

As for the tactical disadvantage of piercings, it wouldn't be any more dangerous than long hair or a beard.

I didn't care for the piercings so much because it looked too much like what they did with Nero's crew.

As far as V vs STID.

I'm not even trying to trash V. I don't find any of the Trek films to be downright unwatchable (yes, even Nemesis). And I'll take the argument that V could have been a much stronger film, and no doubt it was more ambitious with the material it tried to cover. But coulda, shoulda, woulda. What resulted was a somewhat disjointed film with an uninspired antagonist and a lukewarm payoff.
