Star Trek Into Darkness (Post-release)

All that means is the character has the ABILITY to learn, not that he has the actual knowledge. Even having the ability to learn, he's wholly incapable of Captaining a Starship without the actual training.

Pike also says that he is "genius level" which implies that he has knowledge and not simply the capacity to learn...it implies that his intelligence has been empirically measured.

Moreover, why do you think he has no training? ST09 clearly shows that they all spend 3 years at Starfleet Academy.

What I really want to know is if, Star Trek is an American property, produced in America, then why can't I go to hobby store and get the new stinking model? I'm not begrudging Germany for getting the license, but why not sell it here too?

Right now Paramount is happier with the box office performance of GI Joe and Hansel and Gretel than they are with Star Trek. Star Trek has no overseas legs at all.

If it makes you feel any better I hear that the model itself has a lot of issues.

From my understanding, JJ has said he was done directing Star Trek. Especially now that he has SW. So, after this one making money, but being so so for the fan base, only time will tell if they do another. Especially since there has been no word from the actors, JJ saying if he would help with a sequel, etc. I think it will be a bit longer then last time before they do another one. Just my thoughts.

So instead of a four year wait, it will be a five year wait...... By the time we get to the next film, the whole "five year mission" will be over. Well, it would give them an excuse to resort to Earth again.

Than why was "The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus" a bomb? That was by all accounts the last film he ever made.

TDK was the last BIG film he made and the publicity was all around that. I'll bet 90% of the viewing public has never heard of The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus.

I don't think it was just his death that propelled the film to be the success that it was. Nobody died during the making of the Avengers, or Iron Man 3.

I never said it was. I said it helped in a market that otherwise wouldn't have gone.

That's me. I probably would not have gone to see Dark Knight if Ledger had not died. I'm not the biggest fan of Batman (always preferred Marvel to DC) and the Nolan films don't do a whole lot for me.

On the topic of ST, I too would be surprised if they did nothing for the 50th Anniversary.

I have no doubt that JJ is done with Trek and I also think that this Trek crew won't be back any time soon. However I wouldn't be surprised if down the road Paramount gave it another kick at the can with these guys.

I think it would be an incredibly poor decision to waste the opportunity of another Trek movie sometime in the near future…(the 50th Anniversary seems like perfect timing) given that everything else is poised for a potential success (both financially and dramatically) if they can only find 2 more things: an original story that is true to the spirit of the series, and the right Director.

In total agreement with you.
