Just to mess with you, I've made a couple small changes to the central bit. I'm test-printing them now, but I wanted to make it so the top and bottom halves of the orb base could be screwed together, so I modeled some holes in there quickly for some M2 screws. I'm going to look at revising all the files for that thing in the OP shortly - the stuff you've printed so far will be fine, mind you, but I'm more thinking about usability for making casts of it.

I don't thread them. For something like the M2 screws I've been using, which has 2mm threads, I will usually model the holes at about 1.8mm diameter and it'll just bite its' way into the plastic when you turn it. Typically the printer actually produces the holes closer to 1.6mm from what I've measured, although your extrusion settings might change that a bit.

Still working on Star Lord equipment over here. I have a bunch of things to show, but I figure the first and most relevant thing might be the changes I've been making to the electromagnet base for the Infinity Orb. I found better reference images of the electromagnet from the movie and boy, was I not even close as far as the top details were concerned!
I didn't even realize the thing lights up! Shame on me. My redesign doesn't take any sort of lighting into account because I didn't see it as being worth all the effort, but that doesn't mean down the line I might not reconsider and at least make one that lights up. We'll see. Anyway, here's the redesigned part:
It has screw holes now so I can dial it shut with my normal M2x4 screws. I also slapped the Star Lord / Ravagers logo on the bottom because it's a large, plain surface that you never see in the movie and I figured it'd be a nice little nod to the character. Was debating using the Nova Corps logo instead, and passing it off as some kind of stolen evidence gathering equipment, but I didn't like their logo as much.
I'm probably going to change how the top half and bottom halves of the middle sandwich closed - depends on how the parts actually print out. As always, once I am done revising things, I'll update the files.

I just wanted to give a simple shoutout to Ein for all the hardwork he has put into the mask, costume + files. Super high quality. Very impressed. So thank you for making them available for download. I've been lurking this thread since I've found it cause I really wanted to be Star-Lord for halloween with my s.o. as Gamora (face blurred).
Anyway, I worked on the files you put up and fashioned my own mask. Just wanted to post the final result. I haven't taken any good pictures of it but I'd be happy to upload some if anyone really wants to see but it's nothing compared to Ein's work. Enjoy! And thanks again Ein, keep it up!

could just be my old eyes fooling me, but is the bottom 'open' with just spokes in a Y shape?

Well spotted, for real. Back to the drawing board for me, I guess.I'm probably going to remodel it to at least have a solid center piece, though, since that would make it easier to mold for cold casting's sake. Very troublesome, this!

After more research and careful consideration, I have reconsidered my stance on the noncommercial restriction of my 3D designs, including the Infinity Orb. I am now lifting that restriction so that now my designs are licensed under Creative Commons, Attribution, Share-Alike detailed here: http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0/
This means that anyone is free to share and adapt the orb for any purpose, even commercially, so long as you attribute and share-alike. (See above link for more info.) So if anyone wants to make and sell the orbs, you don't need to ask my permission or compensate me. I'd just ask that you attribute the original work to me and provide the link, which is http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:430184

I've printed several other items on my Da Vinci but all have been relatively easy as I have not had to use supports at all so far.
If you don't mind me asking how do you go about printing something like this with supports? Say a part like the front mask when I slice it with supports it looks like a giant mess. Do they pop off easily or is there a fair amount of clean up?
