Star Lord Blaster Nerf Conversion

As I'm off to Lincoln Comic Con this year, I thought I'd dust off the Star Lord costume.
Tis only a cheap one from a well known internet auction site, but it's a bit of fun :)
Anyhoo, the blaster annoyed me when I last wore the outfit as it's incredibly orange.
So I thought I'd have a go at making it a bit more realistic!

Here's the original unit for those who haven't seen it:

The first thing I did was to remove the upper and lower sections. I then sprayed these matt black:

Then I masked them up and used some Rub n Buff to fill in the silver parts:

And used some Citadel wash to darken some of the lines:

I'm now about to spray the main body:

But it's rather inconsiderately started to rain and the other half isn't happy about the living room smelling of plasticote, so I'll have to postpone the rest of the build until the sun comes out!
More to come :)

Main body sprayed up this evening. Waiting for it to dry and will continue with the painting over the weekend

Broke out the Rub n Buff again (Damn that's useful stuff) and some acrylics. Bit more buffing, bit more weathering:

I found the Citadel Wash oils quite good, but tbh, watered acrylics worked just as well for me.

Put it back together:

And we're pretty much done!
Might try to add some heat bluing effect to the ends of the barrels if I can find a decent tutorial somewhere :)

Ta for looking

Hahaha
This is incredible
I did the same for my cousin and today I took out the two unpainted ones I had and told my mom I was going to do them this week

And now I'm thinking "hmm, could add lights to that"
So 2 metres of blue EL wire has been ordered
