Re: Second Run: STAR-LORD BAG, improved and professionally made.
Ok, the new sample is here.
Here's the thing.. .It doesn't look much different. In some ways it looks worse, but let me explain
On this new sample, they forgot a couple small details. The straps on the front of the bag don't have the stitching.
The D rings are the wrong shape (they're standard D rings instead of the... how to describe them? Longer? ones on the bag).
In a test to try to get the color different, I went with a lighter canvas for the main part of the bag, and what I thought would be a browner color for the panels. The bag is TOO light colored, and the panels, while less pumpkin colored than before, are still too light, and I'll be adjusting them again for the next run.
However, I love it. I had them use a higher quality of leather for everything that is leather on the bag. It's just... nicer. It weighs at least a pound less, and it's much more pliable (I'd say the top problem with my first run is that the leather backing of the bag was a bit stiff).
Other changes that were done:
The snaps on the front are magnetic rather than the CobraX ones used in the movie. This makes it easier for me and for the manufacturer, and cheaper for you.
The loops where the shoulder strap D rings attached are longer. Well one is, they didn't understand that both needed to change even though I told them, because English is tricky as a second language it seems. BUT they will be both longer on the new run
Fixed the size of some of the rivets.
The panels now overlap, but they aren't riveted in place on the top. So each panel has only two rivets holding it down, and the above panel holds down the top edge of the panel below it. If you have no idea what I mean by this, then it's an insignificant detail to you and you can ignore it.
Moved the shoulder pad a bit. It's now in a spot that rests better with the bag in a more natural position.
No more blue thread that was used for some reason in a few spots.
So here's what I'm going to do. Using photos of the old one AND the new one, I'm going to photoshop up a version that shows the new bag with all the corrections, but with all of the good things that were ignored and with all of the corrections still to come, so you can see what the finished, correct bag will look like.
Sorry to have to do this in this weird way. And I know not all of this post feels positive. But honestly, please take away from this that I am
excited about this new bag. I love how it feels holding it and wearing it. I'm happy about the way the changes look (the ones they did right). And if there's anything these guys are good at, it's getting the details right when I explain exactly what to do, with pictures to help show what I mean. Which I'll do for every little thing
