Are there any comparrison photos of the Art Asylum and MR Phasers out there? I'm thinking of getting one. I'd like to hear some feedback on the AA phaser.

Thanks :)

The AA phaser is %100 percent accurate to the prop used on Enterprise :D

But besides that. I think that for the price range, the AA phaser is just about the most accurate and fun prop you can buy. It lends itself easily to mods and upgrades if you want to dress it up. However, if you wan't total accuarcy, and if the fact that there is no metal on the prop bothers you, then I would suggest building your own replica.

Did somebody say... comparison shots? :D

The "HMS" that you see in some of these shots is an earlier replica made by HMS for sale by Starland... it's virtually identical to the AA.

The AA shown has been repainted in "authentic" colors.

In this first shot it's MR on the left and HMS Starland on the right.

Wow. Awesome comparrison pics. Thank you. This definately helps me to make a decision about which direction I want to go in. The MR's are way overpriced for me to but into at this point. you can't touch one for uner $1000.The HMS and AA are more in my range for price and quality. I think more than likely I'll go for the HMS version. I'll probably get the kit since I cannot afford the puilt up version. Thanks for the pics. Those are great.

i have the AA phaser and i really like mine. also got a phaser from that outfit that made the toys, i cant remember the name right off, all the stuff was in boxes, they had a phaser, a tricorder, mccoys med kit, etc..

i got one of each of those when i seen them on the shelves. but the AA phaser is so cool cuz of all the lil things that can move on it and detach and such. yeah, MR is really high dollar, and for 30 bucks, i got a nice AA phaser.

i also have couple communcators, ones a talk back one, the toy one, and the other was made by same supplier MR used for making theirs. it has the metal mouirre that spins, led lights and call sounds and frequency sounds.

that cost me round 90 bucks for that one. its real nice replica for alot less than a full licensed MR, and made from the same parts MR uses for theirs.

If you rate these considering accuracy for the dollar you spend, then the Art Asylum phaser is an absolutely outstanding value.

Wow, that's quite a series of comparison shots - great job.

I second, or third, or fourth, the notion that the AA Phaser is worth the effort. I've picked up the reglar and Black/White versions. Best toys ever and GREAT props.

I'd say the AA is perfect for costuming. :D

Just put a little Velcro on the side of the p1, maybe a strip running down the handle. Add a patch of the wooly velcro to your right pant leg, and you're good to go. B)

For a communicator the Vegas "Star Trek Experience" knockoff of the MR, at $50, is the best value.

Vegas Experience also sells an under-$20 water pistol which is a direct knockoff of the MR phaser (.) down to the accurate paint colors. That might even be a better costuming prop, but you'd have to modify it by cutting off the trigger.

So, not to hijack this thread or anything, but does anyone know where to buy one other than online? Deals online just don't feel like deals anymore. Shipping gets padded so much that you end up paying retail plus 17 bucks for shipping :angry
