Square enix trolls Final fantasy 7 fans.

FF7 is arguably the most overrated game of the series. While good for the time it's very small scope when compared to masterpieces of the genre like FF4 and FF6. The game itself doesn't hold up enough to warrant any kind of re-release.
They've actually said that if they remake the game with added content that fans would buy only it and no other final fantasy games they put out for a while. Let's face it the franchise is dying a painful death as they keep outsourcing remakes of the earlier games. It's still a massively huge game in japan so they're ignoring the easy money they'd make.
Plus they'd be able to put in a ton of new storyline and content. There's also the issue that it's one of the last games the creator had everything to do with before square bounced him, the composer, and a lot of the original final fantasy team out the door. They may not be able to get his blessing to alter and expand it, i there was an article after the falling out he told them to stop altering his games and they told him off in. I think the FF4 sequel was the last big change they did.
They'd rather play with Lightning and this massive crystal storyline now. I know a lot of gamers younger than me hate the early ff games except 7 and are the ones who want it the most. They'd make money on it i guarantee. They just like using it and the earlier ff games as DLC content to make a quick buck these days. Square's for sure lost it's way. I remember there would be 10 new games by them on the shelves at once in the early 2000s and now there's hardly anything.
Just because it would make money doesn't mean it was as good as nostalgia seems to make it to some. To be honest, it's not even the best FF game since it came out and if we're using younger gamers as the bar here it's a REALLY low bar. Everything now is all FPS crap and graphics are more important than game play or story to most kids.
Don't get me wrong, I played the hell out of FF7 when it first came out. However it REALLY doesn't hold up. Best left to nostalgia IMHO. Focus on making the new ones good.

Well 4 years later and we're looking at a year or so until the Final Fantasy VII Remake release date.
