Spy gadget building - give me your best input

So my son is turning 8 in a month and he wants to have a "spy" birthday party. I assume that most of the gifts he'll receive will be the toy store spy type toys (of which he's already got some - door alarm, disappearing ink, etc.).

Anyway, I'd like to make some cool stuff for him that he wouldn't get from others.

Stuff like: Secret Compartment Book

So I'm hoping you all will have other ideas I could build or pull together in a month or so. All suggestions welcome... step-by-steps encouraged. ;)

Many thanks!

Have cheap sunglasses and squirt guns as a giveaways to the party guests. Maybe some plastic badges, also.
As far as a gift, how about a photo ID for your son of an imaginary spy organisation?

Sincerely,
The Wolf

Every good spy needs a spycam, how about one of those cheap little keychain digicams rip the casing off and fit the innards inside something covert ?

Get a pool and fill it with sharks with frickin' lazers on thier heads.

You could hide a small radio/ walkie talkie in a lint brush (used in Live and Let Die apparently)

periscopes are fun to build.

secret code glasses have a red or blue lens and bloc out the red or blue ink to reveal the message.

this is a great opportunity for a treasure hunt. each boy gets a cheap compass and a map (different maps for each boy) Each clue they find diects them to new clues and prizes. You can teach the boys about maps, navigating, math & geometry.

build a crystal radio set.

give away walkie talkie sets as prizes

how about a dart wrist gun like in Moonraker. They use to make similar wrist dart guns for Spiderman back in the 70's called Web Shooters.

These go over well. I did one for my son years ago. You could take it a bit further and do a series of foriegn and domestic passports with his photo (à la Jason Bourne).

The paper prop possibilities are numerous...wanted posters, dossiers, maps (use a real local map as a base), business cards, fingerprint cards, encoded messages, etc.

I was going to say a suitcase/briefcase too, but that was mentioned.

But how about a variation on that? Maybe a briefcase with a watergun inside, with the tip of the barrel just barely sticking out one side? I think this was actually used in real life, saw it on some sort of "real spy" show?

And there are many items on the merket that have false bottoms with hollow insides so you can hide stuff. Check out this site...

Aquanet, Ajax can safes as well as a hollowed out book.

You could also make him a watch with a grappling hook on it.

Just get a cheap tpy watch, pull all the internals out, replace the face with a printed version, then get one of those retracting I.D. card lanyards available at Wal-Mart, put that inside the body with the string pulled out through one side and attach a small multi-pronged greeblie to the end.
If you do this, you might need to stress to your budding spy, not to actually try swinging from it.;)

You guys aren't thinking big enough. I'm thinking about one of those little battery powered Power Wheels cars that turns into a submarine! :lol

Maybe some kind of "secret mission"? Like the "President" calls him and he has to find his present?

Or a party game with one of those cheap little RC helicopters? They have to pilot it to make their get-a-way?

I like the attache case idea.

Great idea for a kids party!
