Greetings. :D It's been a long time. I wanted to post a project I've just started. Hope to get it in silicone soon and start pulling parts. If you don't know what this is - it is the Spindrift from Land of the Giants, 1/1scale... If you where a giant that is. Ok, how many of us would go out and put their model in the grass and pretend that they are the giant finding the ship in the park. :$ Come on...well anyway, I plan on making it out of fiberglass and resin parts using brass honeycomb grills and brass parts for the antenna. The intakes and windows are going to be lighted. The engine and dome will have pulsating lights. If you have any questions let me know. More pictures to come as I progress on the project. LOOK ON DOWN THE PAGE. Enjoy.

Thanks,
Thermal

Cool I love that ship. I just picked up the Polar Lights kit which I suppose is for mini-giants being smaller than your build. Looking forward to updates. :)

I'm sure you and I were not the only ones who did that. :lol

Looks great so far, and looking forward to seeing your progress. :)

Ah, one of the great ships from an Irwin Allen series. :love

I'll be watching your thread for progress. Looking very good so far. :thumbsup

Here she is. :D All foamed skin and primed. I will be getting all the parts into molds next week. The first pictures show the ship in parts, so you can see how it will go together. The second picture is the buck that is going to be thermoformed for the top dome. Then there is a picture of the molds for casting the front and rear intakes and the front window (with the side panels). I took some more pictures of the side views (left and right) so you can see how smooth she has turned out. If you have any questions let me know. Enjoy.

looks great . :thumbsup

but remember its not a space ship. :angel

its a Sub Orbital Transport. a high flying airliner. :D

have you thought of doing a lit interior and leaving the front top to lift off like the model. :)

You are 100% correct. :) The interior is something I may do down the road. At this time I would like to have it as close to the studio model as I can get it. There is or was an interior in the studio model's cockpit section (just a front dash and walls) and that was it. :lol Maybe someone would want to put an interior in there's?

Enjoy, :D

Next stage - building the Molds... The pictures will show you that I have finished getting the parts ready for bell molds. The way I do my molds is to spray on the rubber and then I spray a hard shell for support. You end up with a very strong mold at a low material cost. The dome in the last picture is a finished buck made out of rubber specifically for thermoforming. This material makes it easier to pull parts out of the thermoformed piece. I should have all this done by Friday, and then start running parts. :)

Enjoy.

It has been a week and I just finished the bell molds for the Spindrift. :D Here are pictures of the molds. They are a little tacky, but this is the best time to trim them up so they will have a nice clean edge. Once the molds are dry I will hot glue some 1x1's on the bottom of the molds to help stabilize and keep them level while I laminate them. :love

Enjoy.
