SPIDERTEEN911's Definitive Spider-Man Suit! SOLD TO chaosprince PIC HEAVY!

Started on the shoes just now.

STEP 1:

Take your foot and place it in a neoprene sock.

STEP 2:

Take your sock and make a plastic-bag bootie out of it (heh heh... bootie...).
This is just a cautionary step so that if there's any spray-on rubber that goes through the lycra, it won't stick to your neoprene socks.

STEP 3:

Cover your spray surface with a plastic drop cloth (or newspaper).

STEP 4:

Place feet carefully into suit

STEP 5

Set up some plastic bag spray shields to protect the rest of the suit and to keep the spray on the sole only.

STEP 6:

Spray one thick layer on (be careful not to spray too much, it will drip):

STEP 7:

Wait 30-60 minutes for layer to dry.

Repeat 3 times, or as much as you need to create a nice padded foot.

To get a nice fine line on the outsides of the soles for a clear separation, spray 15 seconds worth of Plasti-Dip into a small container and then use a small paintbrush to detail a thin line across the rim of your sole. Fill in sole in patches or where needed.

I will be posting the final product once I am finished... currently, I am in a waiting period between layers.

Cheers!

How does that handle on wet floors? (Not that I would wear my suit it the rain or anything.) Do you think flex deal will do the same job?

All done for now!

Three coats seems PERFECT. Like it is a built in shoe even.

Side view (nice and flat):

Angled (VERY nice layers)
I will be doing a paintbrush touch-up (like I mentioned in my last pic post) to make a more apparent contrast between sole and suit.

So after taking my feet out of the suit and turning it inside out, I found that the sole had gone through quite a bit and created a very good surface to step on. It's very sturdy.

I am very happy with my decision for the soles.

NOW, just to note, this will be good for poses, walking around, and some cool acrobatics. BUT, for any dancing, breakdancing, and other stuff I will do, I will be putting a black ankle sock over the feet and going with a nice pair of red converse.

Though tacky, the suit would definitely not be able to withstand even a simple moonwalk with those rubbery soles.

See you next time once I get my face shell and lenses in from TJack (probably tomorrow or Friday).

Cheers!

I've never used Flex Seal before, so if you went the spray on/paint on rubber sole process, I would recommend getting Plasti-Dip spray or the can of it to paint on.

It's actually pretty affordable and you won't use up even one can.

Oh nice! Looks good! I'll probably buy a paint on one because I'm a horrible spray painter. Gonna be sweet when you get that face shell! :D

Re: (WIP) "This is so NOT spandex!" SPIDERTEEN911's Definitive Spider-Man Suit!

Wait, so the vinyl on the eyes you can peel off and re-add a different plastic? Is that a need or did you do it to see through it better?

I thought long and hard for an answer to this.. but I'm going to guess that this is the wrong thread?

Unless you mean the lenses I have with the rubber frames. In that case yeah, you can "peel" the vinyl lenses off of the frames and add different ones if needed.

It was on page three when you spoke about the lens from fogging up. I just got a pair of TJack's lens in the mail today, so I looked through to see how to work with the lens and found your thread
