Spiderman web shooter: A collaborative project.

Re: Spiderman web shooter: A collaborative project. Even more 3D Print Goodness!!!

I'm just going to say that this thread and these 3D prints are damned awesome.
I've been following it for a number of days now and I'll definitely be getting some printed. It's really good to be able to see the ways people are modifying them to light up and such. I love seeing the updates!

I've never done anything with Shapeways before (though I'm planning to soon enough), so it's great to be able to see other peoples work and learn about it all! Although my main learning curve is with the 3D modelling, especially doing it in a way that means it can become a real object.

Also, the model itself is fantastic, so high-five for creating such an ace piece that properly translates to a real-world object! :D
Keep up the kick-ass work!

Very cool!
Thanks man!

Takes me back to my days at MSOE. I really have to crack open those notebooks and get back in touch with that circuit based knowledge.

Great progress!
Thanks! I don't think the electronics should be too bad. It's a very basic circuit so only moderate soldering skills should be needed. Well, that's the plan anyway! :lol

Will your master be located in the glove?
Very cool with th reed switch.
Impressive. Most impressive. :thumbsup
I won't be sewing a glove sadly. After I'm done goofing around I'm going to get one of those hands used for jewelry and display it with a mask. :love

Just chiming in to say it's refreshing to see a couple things taking place here.

1) 3D work that is actually printable! Well done. :thumbsup

2) A very nice effort being made to educate the guys who aren't as dialed in as others on the process.

Good for you, man! Very nice to see something like this being handled as well as it has been. Just had to give you a little rep. for this thread.

-Rylo
Wow I don't what to say, thanks for the awesome encouragement! Funny enough, that's the first Rep point I've gotten for this whole thread! :lol

guys this is awesome! You should totally upload the files to Thingiverse - Digital Designs for Physical Objects if you haven't already. Thingiverse is MADE for this style of project.
I completely forgot about thingiverse! I just uploaded it and I already got a download not 10 minutes in.
Here's the URL: Spiderman Web Shooters by epilepticsquirrel - Thingiverse

If you've learned something then the project has accomplished it's goal. :thumbsup
Looking forward to seeing what you can come up with!

Re: Spiderman web shooter: A collaborative project. Even more 3D Print Goodness!!!

Tomorrow I'll pick up some glazing putty and RIT dye :love

Have you had the chance to try the Rit Dye on the fluid indicator?

I did attempt to use the liquid version on another project I've been toying with with little success. It's the same material, but I suspect there were flaws in my process of using the dye. I suspect the temp, lack of preparation (sanding), and the need to find the ideal ratio of dye/water.

So I'd be interested to hear how you end up going about it, and how the fluid indicator takes to the dye.

Re: Spiderman web shooter: A collaborative project. Even more 3D Print Goodness!!!

The Wal-Mart I went to didn't have the putty nor the color dye I needed. :angry

Looking back at how well the material illuminates by itself, I decided against dying the fluid meter. To me it looks fine and I'm quite happy with it. :)

The lens is another story; for sure it's going to be a learning process with mistakes along the way. That's how I learn best. :thumbsup

Re: Spiderman web shooter: A collaborative project. Even more 3D Print Goodness!!!

Received my pieces last night but didn't get around to really looking at them till tonight. I ordered everything in the WSF Polished except the indicator and nozzle of course. Everything looks fantastic. My first real experience with a 3D printer and I have to say I am impressed. Interesting story though on them getting shipped to me. It appears as though customs had no idea what to categorize it as, and apparently according to the duties paper they are "Paintball accessories/parts" lol. Gonna tinker around with some electronics and stuff now. My question to everyone else is how durable would you say these models are? Good enough to be worn on a costume without fear of breaking? And as far as colouring goes it seems RIT dyes are the way to go. Is this what others are planning to do or is there some other better method out there?

I still haven't even seen the movie yet (re: four month old baby) and I'm itching to order one of these... Excellent work as usual, Andrew!

I could be wrong. But I believe the RIT dye is just for the green fluid indicator.
I will be using the color changing spray paint by Rustoleum for the actual shooter.

I got to painting right away. I used Duplicolor Medium Blue Met. I'm pleased with it!

psst, me neither! :lol Thanks!

That is correct, the RIT Dye is for the translucent parts only. Any normal paint can be used for the rest of the body parts. Though a little prep goes a long way in how the final result will look. :thumbsup

That's absolutely gorgeous! :love What do you have planned for the center portion?

Taylor that is Amazeballz. Great color. Never mind with the color change Rustoleum. That looks great.
Is everyone using magnets to attach to the Lycra?

That's a good question! While I don't plan getting a suit/gloves, that seems to need some creative thinking. You'd probably want something low profile, and easy to remove. If you use magnets I hope that wouldn't mess with any electronic innards (especially a reed switch).

Other than gluing the stuff down or sewing it on, you could use snaps, velcro, an elastic band that connects to the web-shooter though the wrist of the suit itself. There are plenty of options I suppose, I guess it just boils down to what best suits your situation but those are a few ideas off the top of my head.

I'm not quite sure yet. I was wondering if you'll be selling the acrylic discs at all? I'd like to mess around with those a bit!

Haha thanks. I was looking around Autozone and thought it was the perfect color! I was planning on using magnets too. I wouldn't feel too comfortable gluing the whole thing to the lycra.

Re: Spiderman web shooter: A collaborative project. Even more 3D Print Goodness!!!

And I want it to be interchangeable as the costume and watch version. So I think magnets are the way to go!

Re: Spiderman web shooter: A collaborative project. Even more 3D Print Goodness!!!

Had some time this morning to get some work done on my web shooters. Hope you guys like.

Went to a loacal hobby store that specializes in trains and bought some transparent plastic in red and green and finished one up. Tell me what you guys think?

Have got some detailing to do with the paint but overall Im pretty happy with the color scheme and how they turned out

@Powerhouse70,

Just used hot glue to place the watch gears?
