Spider-Man: Homecoming

I think it also bears pointing out: the title is a little "on the nose" given this is Spidey's first film in 18 years where he's back under the Marvel Studios umbrella. Marvel had to have realized how much that looks like a slight, right?

Yup, thought of that too. A nice F U to Sony. "We're going to be gifting you a s-load of money but we don't have to like it."
I don't think they'll ever get X-Men properties back but I bet Fantastic Four is a real possibility.

Is Marvel going to have any creative input on this Sony feature?
If not, Sony can easily crash this character all over again.

... oh I just saw that they are. Good show, folks. Name it whatever you want. Just give us a good movie. I don't see the name as a necessary slight if this is a collaboration.

I'm happy that they've given the film a sub title.....so carrying on from the Thor, Captain America & Avengers titles, Spidey films will drop the numerical sequel number thing....everythings better,.....

I'm guessing Keaton is being tapped to play Vulture, especially after the rumor about a winged villain started yesterday.

For the record I don't like Michael Keaton - chews scenery. I hated him in 1989 as Batman. Unless something major has changed in his discipline I can't imagine he'd be any good here. The man lacks nuance.

I don't like him.

Seen Birdman? Spotlight? His recent stuff is pretty good. He can do comedy too - and if this is going to be a more light hearted take on the webslinger, then that makes sense. I don't feel particularly strongly about the casting, I'm still on the fence about the name, and that awful logo.

However I believe he's definitely capable of giving us a good performance. Whether Vulture can be written well for this kind of film though. I'd imagine there might be a bit of an issue with separation from Falcon for general audiences maybe. (Another guy with wings??) and even if there isn't, that perceived problem may be there.

Silvermane? haha!

What about Mysterio? Technology based stuff, could be a retired stagehand, expert in illusions etc with a penchant for the theatrical. Failed actor perhaps, lot of rage and self pity in there. Could be something.

Noted. But even all that can't scrub the memory of Gung Ho, Mr. Mom, Johnny Dangerously and Batman (89) out of my brain.

Haha definitely that's fair enough (though I had no issues with Batman, watched it as a youngster) - but the 80's were a solid 26 years ago and more chief. I was genuinely impressed by Birdman, some of the strength of acting in that was excellent. Hope he can change your opinion :thumbsup

Wow. Hated him in 89 Batman? I heard that even people that signed that petition to WB in 88 liked his performance. I like Michael Keaton. I didnt see Birdman, and I thought he was kind of flat in the new Robocop remake(wasnt his fault, movie was pretty bland) but hated him in Batman?! Im in shock! :eek But to your defense the only things I like him in are Batman and Beetlejuice.

Regarding Spider Boy though... Im really sick of the high school thing. They talk about Peter Parker being relatable, like high school is the only thing we all can relate to. I dont want to see that! I dont care, its been done! So sick of that arc of the character. Im not all that excited about this movie, and I am a HUGE Spider-man fan.

And if vulture is the villain... Im going to be pissed. Or any iteration of a damn Green Goblin :angry

Well Keaton just went in the wrong direction with Batman. His "Wanna get nuts?" scene sums up a lot that's wrong with him. First there's that Keaton swagger I can't stand - when he's in a dramatic pause he literally walks either bouncing his body or bobbing his head as if he should be snapping his fingers to music. Keaton does that in every damn movie he's in when he's trying to look tough or indifferent. He also tries to do a Clint Eastwood with the soft voice before exploding like Pacino. He's trying hard to sound like someone on the edge, but he just comes across like a kid having a tantrum who is trying way too hard to be intimidating. His acting was all surface and no depth. Ridiculous.

Interesting. I never really noticed the "keaton swagger". Now that Im thinking about it, youre the first person I have seen that said that they hated him in Batman. :lol

He's not alone, Snikt! :)
He was not Batman (nor Bruce Wayne) of any possible incarnation, in way shape or form.

(He was not the only thing wrong with Batman 89, but I digress)

So if the movie is called Spiderman Homecoming, does that mean he'll stick around for the football game?

Aka box office insurance, the premium being RDJ's hefty contract. I haven't seen CW yet but it does sound like Stark has the closest connection to Parker among the Avengers, so this doesn't feel too forced.

Having seen CW, this news is AWESOME to me. I need to see more of the two of them together.
