Spacetrooper Backpack- Found !! New pics added

:eek

WOAH! NICE! (y)thumbsup

tk8456, what was at the bottom of the tanks while attached to the Death Star surface? Could that be what you are looking for?

Anything mate. I'm not sure what it was attached too.

I'm just asking for help to see if we see this lower part anywhere in the films
They cannibalised lots and lots of parts

(Based on my screen grabs, I think the toy is very, very close to what was used yes)

I was about to do a search for spacetrooper, but not this one. Very cool though.

I happened to see the end of Ep 3 on TV when the Emperor finds Kentucky Fried Darth and flies him to some outpost. As the ship flies in to land there are 2 troopers on the left looking at it. Kind of a nod to these 2 guys.

Anyone see it and know about these guys?

Yeah I've seen them
They look pretty cool too :)

CTF that is the funniest post you have ever made bro! OMG!!! LOL!!!!

Odd thought. But what if the bottom "tank" was made from extra armor pulls or the like. Maybe a forearm or something. The simple fact that there aren't ANY pics of it lead me to believe it was NEVER meant to be seen. It could be more craptacular than anyone thinks. I doubt it is an actual vaccuum but it could be.

I would just tend to believe it is some random vac formed piece. I'm sure AA made it... we should ask him. I mean, he did design HUNDREDS of suits right? :lol

Already have asked him. He knows nothing...he did initially say they were camping gas cannisters.
They're not

I will vac form my bit though. I'll base it on that toy, stuff it :)

TK8456, you will always be remembered on the RPF as the "Spacetrooper Backpack Guy". Congratulations. Your hard work and extensive research has really paid off. Kudos :thumbsup

Considering the tank trailers from the Death Star model it appears ILM built the spacetrooper backpacks themselves - which rules out any shared parts with props and set pieces made in the UK.
What other large forms were used in the studio scale models?
Paint buckets maybe? L'eggs containers? Plastruct hemispheres?

Maybe plant pots? Or ice buckets? Two 'somethings' top to top.

The curved pipe looks like a sink drain, attached to more plumbing, attached to vacuum cleaner parts.

I found this clearer photo of Johnson. The side detail on the bottom tube looks the same as the toy. It's too close to be chance.

There was an address hidden on the side of the photo. I lightened it but it's till hard to read.

Hey now, I discovered it was the Death Star parts as the 2 main tanks, no kudos for me ?!

The thing on the bottom in the pic of the toy looks like one of those 60's-70's "portable" vacuum cleaners with greeblies attatched.

It's not chance. The toy is based of the photo. It doesn't necessarily mean they had inside info for the rest of the details.

Well, if they got the top right, and the side of the bottom, and the hose pipes, then they must have had some better photos. That's too much to guess.
Look at the earlier posts in this thread. They had the public info and came up with different conclusions. The toy has it right in every way we can verify.

Star Wars was on Spike today and I watched it just to see these guys five second scene.

.

It was stated on page 9 of this thread by Moffeaton:
no, lol... but he has the same source material the books do, I guess. There's not much out there that's been put into the "reference stream" so to speak.

Moffeaton personally knows the sculptor and talked to him about it. That's not the Hasbro sculpt, it's an unproduced Marmit design by a Japanese sculptor. He knew the Death Star connection and the tanker parts the rest is guesswork from the same blurry pics we're looking at.

Steve Sansweet was asked about the spacetrooper as well and he hadn't seen any additional reference. I've been working with Lucasfilm for over 15 years myself and haven't run across anything yet either.

Hasbro's backpack is FAR less accurate than the Marmit prototype:

James you did mention it a while back yes mate, so thanks for the link :)

I did agree with you at the time after having seen them in person on a death star section in an exhibition
They were about the right size

What I've done is spoken to the sculptor and tracked down the bottles used :)

Freuhaff tanker model AMT684 texaco tanker
Its the fine pipe pattern on the back that gives it away
There may have been Another one used but 684 is spot on so far
The wheels used for the jedi training orb are also very similar to the nipples in these bottles

Anyone know what model they used for that?
