I think that robstyle and CessnaDriver are right. A big part of your story is the setting and you will have to convey what you want the story to be through the set. If your cockpit is an Container Hauler you can make it look pristine like its a well maintained ship and the company spends time to ensure the health and wellness of their employees, by having a very neat cockpit with easily accessible switches. If the company isn't doing well, maintenance will be lax, panels will be missing and there could be hoses, and wiring all over the place.
If the Container Hauler has a long trip, as in weeks, you may want to add a bunk and some sort of clean up facilities.
