My guess is that it might be based on the Webley Tempest pellet gun marketed by Beeman's approximately the same time the movie came out.

I always liked the pistol, not to mention being one of the only weapons carried in a shoulder holster in a SciFi movie.

That airpistol does look close to me as well.

Does this interest mean there may be replicas coming soon?

This airsoft rifle was also used in the movie. Ernie Hudson carried the Thunderbolt on a sling with the shoulder stock removed if I remember correctly.

Wow that's a cool looking rifle. Doesn't look like it needs any mods to be sci-fi.

I was also thinking a Beeman air pistol for the pistol, looks like you guys nailed it already, that was fast.

Thanks everyone i loved this movie since it came out when i was little the gun i always like because of the rocket attachment at the end yea the movie cheesey but still i like it lol

A buddy of mine used that same fancy BB rifle as a prop when he was in the film program at Art Center in the late 80's. I think he picked it up in Little Tokyo. The English translation of the instructions were a hoot - "Keep muzzle pointed out of all living beings."

I think he still has it.......

That rifle was used in a few sf flims in the 80s, "Trancers" comes to mind. The thing I thought was funny about it in Spacehunter was the fishing pole, fishing line eyelets added to the barrel, as part of the site. Well that is what I'm guessing the eyelets were suppose to be. :lol

Does anyone know where i can buy this air pistol so i can make this prop i looked on the net since mentioned and it said webley company that made that airpistol went under anyone know where i could possibly buy one?

Webley have not gone under.

However, they did cease production of the Hurricane pistol (aka the Typhoon when marketed by Beeman).

Hurricanes are still knocking around here and there, second hand.
Expect to pay around £200 for one in good working order... and a fair bit more if it comes with original packaging and accessories.

For me, Spacehunter is my absolute favourite movie.
When everyone else was into Star Wars and what-have-you, I was messing about in the Forbidden Zone!!

Jedifyfe - Any chance you can restore those photo links? I'd be very interested to see those pics!!

Cheers,
Woody.
