Here is something of a surprise I ran across surfing on the internet (http://www.kotaku.com.au/2009/07/a-visit-to-flynns-arcade-the-home-of-tron/).

A picture of me playing Space Paranoids at Flynn's arcade in San Diego:

Well, might as well assess interest on this. I wrote a version of Space Paranoids years ago. It was the very first software project I did and it was rough. That being said, I put in dips for switching all software labels in the game to "SPACE PARANOIDS DELUXE", knowing full well a better version would be available someday.

Put simply:

I have always wanted the cabinet from the film.
I want one that will play Space Paranoids Online when it comes out.
I want one that plays a simple movie accurate version.

Now that Space Paranoids Online is coming out, would others be interested in building the cab? It's small and is based on a stock cabaret I believe. I will be happy to share what resources I have for the cabinet and would commit to trying to make a Space Paranoids that matches the one seen in the film.

I was hoping folks would be interested in combining talents (as happened with Starfighter) to make this happen. This is not a junkyard project but hopefully a free collaboration for folks to make all resources available. Also, I don't think this should compete with any merchandise that Disney has coming but chime in if anyone thinks it will.

So for starters, here is what I have:

These are pics of the original bezel posted a long time ago on BYOAC. I don't know who owns this but, if you're here, chime in.

My cleaned up version (I can code but limited on image modification).

The cabinet art is never shown. There is, of course, the ComicCon Flynn's Space Paranoid type art. My favorite is still from BYOAC:

Here's nice cocktail art:

The cabinet itself remains unclear. Maybe Pac cabaret but more likely Dominoes. Any thoughts?

Finally, the software. Had fiddled with closer recognizers back in the day for a version of Combat with Tron vehicles for a multicab.

Here's a screencap:

Passable, but need better models if someone's up to it. Textured recognizer, fragmenting recognizer, envorinmental/maze building blocks, HUD, anything worth improving. My original software and models/textrures are at www.roguesynapse.com.

Tron Legacy looks cool as hell. I want an accurate Space Paranoids.

Come on then! Who's with me?

Re: SPACE PARANOIDS- Definitive Thread

LOL - I was just finishing "Tron" with the Audio commentary and your thread is fueling my Legacy fix!

Re: SPACE PARANOIDS- Definitive Thread

On the posters, I believe they are ahead of us over at KLOV:

BTW, the BYOAC links above don't go to the thread for some reason but the pages come up for the artwork if you search "Space Paranoids" on the site.

So . . .
No one interested in the cab? I'll work on the software if folks want to help on the cab . . .

Awesome sir! Since the cabinet art is never shown, think maybe the poster or Flynn's billboard art?

Hi.

I'm a new to this whole forum thing but not building stuff.
I had planed on building a Space Paranoids cab after seeing the one from
Comic Con 09 but currently I'm working on another Machine.

I don't have any real skills in grafix programs but I can use inkscape
to a small extent. I do have resources for printing bezel and marquee art
my girl friend's dad works in a print shop I also have access to a wood shop.

I have been collecting and fixing Arcade machines for about 6 years now
so I'm no stranger to wiring these things together.

I would absolutely love to be part of any project that has any thing to do with TRON, Space Paranoids, and Arcade machines.

If its ok I will post some photos of the project I'm working on right now.

By the way not sure in you guys know about this http://groovygamegear.com the have repro flight sticks for Bally/Midway
TRON and the also have blue light up track balls.
That would look much cooler than that boring black stick and white track ball.

Awesome!! Well, greetings program. Certainly have the base software for this. I haven't tinkered with SP Online much so I am not sure how long lived it will be. I definitely would like to redo my Space Paranoids to be more inline with the film version. Any 3d modellers out there would be most welcome in terms of texture or recognizer help. Still plodding away on the Star Trek game but could start a bit on this with some interest and assist. I can write the software end in terms of gameplay but could use the 3d assist as I mentioned. As for the cabinet work, welcome aboard sir . . .

Bump for updates?

Sorry I have not posted here for a wile I thought no one was ever going to
reply.
I'm still interested in doing this project as a matter of fact
I'm putting the finishing touches on my Williams 19 in one multicade
and can post some pictures latter on tonight if any one is interested.

I have been searching around for months trying to find really good
photos of the Paranoids Cab from Comic-Con just to get a good idea of the size of the Machine.

Also been trying to look for ways to play Spaceparanoids online without a web browser so it can be incorporated in to a Arcade machine.
But like I stated before I don't know allot about programing games.

When My Multi Williams Machine is done which should be shortly( just waiting for the art work to be finished) I can start a new project.
It was either between a Spaceparanoids Machine of a Multi TRON.
But sense there may be some interest in a Paranoids project I may just do it.

By the way Rouge Synapse I have your version of Spaceparanoids and Last star fighter
these are really great games and as a matter of fact I saw your game cabs and was inspired to build a SP long before the online version came out.

And I must correct my self it looks like you did post the day after I'm sorry.
