Space 1999 Eagle Transporter Build Club (PIC HEAVY!)

Re: Space 1999 Eagle Transporter Build Club MEGA UPDATE NOV 29 (PIC HEAVY!)

:behave Duh..I forgot to welcome 8 perf.

Looks like this little club is growing! :)

Re: Space 1999 Eagle Transporter Build Club MEGA UPDATE NOV 29 (PIC HEAVY!)

Hey Bob what happened to your computer? And I can't remember if I welcomed everyone else or not myself, if I didn't welcome you before Welcome Now. :D I've actually bee sketching on pad and paper no less because I still can't figure out sketchup, but a derivative of an Eagle I guess you could call it that, a sort of heavy lifter earth-to-orbit-to-earth ship with a similar wishbone shape. I'm using it for a short story I've just started. I think it was your use of the fishing bobbers Bob that kicked the idea in my head.

Re: Space 1999 Eagle Transporter Build Club MEGA UPDATE NOV 29 (PIC HEAVY!)

Greylocke! We demand pictures!

Sketchup is great. The learning curve is not as steep as some of the more professional programs.

As is it can do a lot but you sometimes need to think sideways to create something. But there are lots and lots of ruby scripts that are freely available that add more useful functions to the basic program.

Check out youtube for lots of tutorials. Also the SketchUcation web site where there is a thriving forum.

Schartz! Welcome back. Glad you got sorted........... Now lets go and drag Atlanthia back on board!

I'm here fur Gawds sake!!! :lol

What the hell have I started here!!!??? :lol

Hey guys, this is turning into one heck of a cool club! The builds you are all doing are amazing and I am proud to be a part of it all!

Welcome to 8perf AND that 3d printing has me drooling at the mouth!!! What will be the actual size of your finished eagle mate? I have a feeling it will be almost the same as mine, but much, MUCH nicer!

And a very happy birthday to LMFAOSchwarz!!! :cheers

Re: Space 1999 Eagle Transporter Build Club MEGA UPDATE NOV 29 (PIC HEAVY!)

This thread is becoming really exciting! Darren we're happy that you are alive and kicking! We thought you''ve abandoned us. I hope to be a builder too. For now I'm a devout follower. Happy birthday Bob!

Re: Space 1999 Eagle Transporter Build Club MEGA UPDATE NOV 29 (PIC HEAVY!)

Ah! There you are!

You have created........ A monster. Soon the skys will be dark with the massed fleet of eagles. The sun will be blotted out and nothing can stop us mwuahahahaha!

I rest my case!

F3n

PS. Yes indeed happy birthday young man!

Re: Space 1999 Eagle Transporter Build Club MEGA UPDATE NOV 29 (PIC HEAVY!)

Thanks for the welcome guys. I did chime in here way back near the beginning, but life has prevented me from getting back too often.
I think at one time I used a few drawings very similar to those posted here to, inorder to cut formers out of styrene when I tried to sculpt my nose. Sketchup was MUCH easier in the long run.
MY build in nowhere near the size of everyone else's here. At 23", its half at best. Its nearly identical in length to one of the resin kits that is out there. Not by choice, it just happens that the nose that was given to me nearly 20 years ago and sculpted by a classsmate dictated the scale of everything else. That nose is gone but the scale has still been defined.

Re: Space 1999 Eagle Transporter Build Club MEGA UPDATE NOV 29 (PIC HEAVY!)

I've just got the profiles of the command module printed to work with. I'm going the Atlanthia sized version and until I had the prints done I really didn't appreciate the size.

OMG! It's mahoosive!!

I've fettled the cockpit interior again. The Pilot seats are now even higher and steps have been added to facilitate the occupants getting into them.

I'm also looking at vacuum forming the command module.......... If I get this going I could do the engine bells as well........maybe..perhaps........What have I begun!

F3n

These are amazing, Fen!! But I just need to put in a disclaimer here that the two blacked out sections on either window with the spot light in the middle are not authentic to the original. I came up with that just to fill the visible gap between the cockpit wall and the CM shell. Personally, I love it and will be doing it to mine and I am. flattered that anyone would also consider using that, or any other 'solution' I have used. :)

I just didn't want to unintentionally mislead anyone with the modifications that I have made to my eagle, as they might think them original aspects and then find out too late that they are not. From a totally personal point of view, my eagle build project is about ironing out as many of the 'discrepancies' as possible, and to build it as cheaply as possible. I know I will never get the finish and build quality of you others but I will be happy with the results, which is all I care about!

Hey Bob, I hope you had a great day yesterday! So sorry that your package never got to you in time.:(

Final point: if you enjoy this thread, viewers AND BUILDERS, please rate it, as we would like to get as many people involved as possible. Let's make Eagles!!!
Now, To Horse!! :)

Ahh My pics don't show up when I scan them, they're just pencil right now, Just thought I'd take a pic with my phone and it showed up somewhat

This is what I've been doodling, front opens ala Serenity, side opens also, command bridge and living quarters on top of cargo space. I've been doing some reading on the LST's from WWII, and their large interior volume for carrying tanks, trucks bull dozers etc internally with their tri split bows, where the bow doors open then a ramp descends. But this thread is about the Eagles not my design.

And Bob Happy Birthday, Darren thanks for letting us know. :)

If its a heavy lifter Eagle you want to design/build, take a look at this link. There is definitely enough design genius going on to inspire anyone! The redesigned Command Module is Genius!

3D Eagles in CRYSIS - the pc game :) - Page 3 - Space 1999 Eagle Transporter Forum

That is an awesome Eagle. My problem is in my story there is no Anti-gravity which the Eagles need to move move through atmo as they are not very aerodynamic. So my design is somewhat aerodynamic. I had thought about how the Eagle is actually a heavy lift frame with engines , but you need the pods, my design is an enclosed heavy lift with proper internal atmosphere. No pods necessary, just open the doors roll in and out as needed. I am also working on my version of the combat car from Hammers Slammers to go with this, but it's not an air cushion vehicle, more of a WWII Half track as a wheeled 6X6.

I'm just not that good of an artist though, I can doodle a bit, but mostly I write until I get tired of the story and put it in the story folder until I feel like working on it again.

Re: Space 1999 Eagle Transporter Build Club MEGA UPDATE NOV 29 (PIC HEAVY!)

Chiming in here while I've got the chance. I know I've been negligent...and if you want to kick me out of the group for that I will understand! :behave

Greylocke, my computer basically died of old age. I'd kept it in quite good running condition for nearly 13 years, but I was getting tired of regularly upgrading software and components. It got to where it wasn't even starting up right. There's still data on it, but I've got nearly everything backed up, so not too many worries there.

Darren, I still haven't gotten to the post office!! I hope today will be the day!

Build-wise, the closest thing I've got to an update is the fact that in my car is half a fishing bobber, so when I get to Home Despot I'll be able to check the size of the screws I need. Too thick and they could possibly crack the bobber. I want a snug fit, not a squeezed-through-a-pinhole tight!

Re: Space 1999 Eagle Transporter Build Club MEGA UPDATE NOV 29 (PIC HEAVY!)

Leave the group? Leave the group!!

For my part I think we are all going to have periods of apparent no progress. Life has a habit of getting in the way, like it does, and interfering with the important stuff. :-D

I'll be even slower with mine I fear but I will keep coming in to report or post about others progress. Above all it has to be fun at our own pace.

Re: Space 1999 Eagle Transporter Build Club MEGA UPDATE NOV 29 (PIC HEAVY!)

Bob, if ANYONE should be hoofed out for build negligence, it should be ME!!! :lol

The beauty of this build thread being transformed into a build club is that there is always someone who is on the boil and some one that is off the boil. Ultimately, the thread keeps going! Absence makes the heart grow fonder, and the curiosity about the other builds grows accordingly.
For my part, I have been wallowing in self pity for too long and have picked up my build again. One of the major issues for me, as I have previously stated, has been the spine. I believe that I have finally solved the problem once and for all!!!! :cheers
I am having to go down the route of drilling, gluing and pinning each joint of the spine....
Suffice to say that I will try to get an update posted for this evening or tomorrow at the latest.
As for the package, if it still hasn't arrived, I apologise, Mate :( panic not, it's probably in the hands of the TSA who might think that plastic model making is some sort of terrorist activity! :lol

Bob, F3nri5' 8 perf, Barrie, crackerjazz, we are now six!!! If greylocke wants in, then that would make the magnificent seven!

If you build it, they will come....:)

Re: Space 1999 Eagle Transporter Build Club MEGA UPDATE NOV 29 (PIC HEAVY!)

Hoorah for the club! Well said Atlanthia :popcorn

Greylocke Your Eagle concept can be based around lifting body technology which is realworld tech.

Here's a quick couple of pics for my interconnect door system.

Re: Space 1999 Eagle Transporter Build Club MEGA UPDATE NOV 29 (PIC HEAVY!)

Bob, are you predrilling the hole for the screws?

Darren, I don't have anywhere near the skill of you guys. I just make little sketches to keep the geometry in my head for my stories. I do have a sheet of foam core that I'm tempted to try and build something with based on my sketch, but figuring cutting angles and my dyscalcula don't go together.

F3, I was drawing it based on the eagle bone shape with aerodynamics and re-entry in mind, the four outriggers holding thrusters and either landing wheels or landing jacks.

If I can figure out some way to have a printable cutting pattern for my foam core I'd be more than willing to attempt to build it as a sort of re-imagined companion for an Eagle, but not as an Eagle. Those are in a class by themselves and are so Iconic I"d actually be a little overwhelmed.

Re: Space 1999 Eagle Transporter Build Club MEGA UPDATE NOV 29 (PIC HEAVY!)

I, for my part, am just glad you are here... :)

f3n, I tried this method of imitating the roll top desk and, for me, it was hugely unsuccessful for two reasons:
Firstly, the door had to roll back into space that was sorely needed to fit the interior. I have already extended the walkway walls out to meet the shelves and I am, in truth, still struggling to make the interior fit in the space.
Secondly, it just didn't work right and the doors just didn't look right to me with all the vertical join lines on them. Having said that, I fully concede that I did build it out of card stock and I am not the greatest ever model maker, so maybe you will make this work,(I genuinely hope so! :) ) This is why I plumped for the sliding door pockets which, for me, offer the least intrusive solution and the easiest build option.
I can't wait to see what I am sure will be an ingenius solution to this problem!

greylocke, have you thought about putting antigravity into your story, or would that totally bugger up the plot? :lol

Re: Space 1999 Eagle Transporter Build Club MEGA UPDATE NOV 29 (PIC HEAVY!)

greylocke, have you thought about putting antigravity into your story, or would that totally bugger up the plot? :lol

Actually the lack of antigravity is one of the main points of the story as I've outlined it so far, 2 scenes I've planned aren't possible without the effects of gravity. Plus I'm kinda liking the design more and more.

Re: Space 1999 Eagle Transporter Build Club MEGA UPDATE NOV 29 (PIC HEAVY!)

That makes me really want to read it now.....:(

Re: Space 1999 Eagle Transporter Build Club MEGA UPDATE NOV 29 (PIC HEAVY!)

I was watching guardians of piri last night and there was a shot of the command module to passenger pod tunnel.

I vote we gather the special effects guys responsible for the visual discrepancy and show them a slide show of all that they ****** up!

That tunnel appears huge internally. But as we know it just doesn't fit the external view. If there is a toilet in the aft tunnel I think it is probably made up of a tap, hose, and a dyson......no seat either there just isn't room!

The fillers Between the Command module interior and the exterior, at the windows are a necessary item I think. Although not canon I think they add to the overall visual feast. Although I've only fitted one sensor per side I think It could be greebled slightly to look like an array of sensors.

The doors. I think I could do it with the standard pattern door panelling and score the back of it to get the flexibility without the visual yuck of a row of lines on the front. I think it's pretty cool how we are all interpreting the problems and solving them in our own ways. Vive le Difference!
