Some great sci movies suggestions

totally, i was completely blown away the first time i watched it. it was alot like a visual handbook of what could happen in a nuclear strike. i cant speak highly enough about it, because its just that incredible, especially with the limitations of its time, frankie avalon, and a director in the starring role.

The World, The FLesh, and the devil is another interesting one. Its from 1959 and harry belefonte is in it. Its more drama than scifi but its good. TCM had a night of post apocalyptic movies a year or so ago...actually more than that cause i still had a vcr lol. Anyhow they showed about 4 movies from teh 50s and 60s. There are actually some good ones in this genre that are low budget i saw on usa up all night.

Vexille is a good one as are the appleseed films. Runaway with tom selleck is pretty good too.

A Scanner Darkly (2006)
Lifeforce (1985)
The Faculty (1998)
Timerider: The Adventure of Lyle Swann (1982)

Repo Man (1984)
Virus (1999)
Avalon (2001)
The Thirteenth Floor (1999)
Pulse (1988)
Retroactive (1997)

Moon Trap is cheesy but entertaining with bruce cambell and walter keonig.
Virus never got any love and even the actors hate it but i didn't think it was that bad.
Life force was a good one though i didn't realize Patrick stewart was in it until i got older.

Pandorum was good

MOON was very enjoyable

If you want to watch a movie with your kids Planet 51 was a lot of fun.

I liked Astro Boy

I just got netflix so I'm hoping to watch a few from this thread soon.

Until the End of the world. Cult Classic. Great movie, great soundtrack.

Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai. Another cult classic

I just ordered Watch The Skies!: The big book of 1950s sci-fi. It was updated last year and now covers the 50s into the more modern stuff. its 1004 pages but it costs a fortune. I got mine used for 62.99.

In the "so bad it's good" category...

My friend has never seen Plan 9 From Outer Space, so I'm forcing him to watch it Friday night. I haven't decided to watch it with or without the Mike Nelson riffing or not...

I'm gonna' assume if you got the Firefly TV series
you ALSO got the MOVIE ! :thumbsup

Just to be explicit, that would be "Serenity." Oddly enough, there is little that is serene about it.

A few more for grins: Mars Attacks, Independence Day, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (The BBC television serial, not the recent movie, though that too has its moments).

Would Rocky Horror Picture Show count as sci-fi?

Battle Beyond the Stars. Roger Corman counts right? lol. Screamers (not sure about the newer ones) just because Peter Weller is cool. If you don't mind low budgets you have the Robocop: Prime Directives miniseries (3 or 4 movies that fit together). The original V and V: final battle.

I can't believe I didn't mention "Bicentennial Man" , the reason I got into vacuum forming.

If you have ever felt lonely (with people all around) you will really like this film.

I'm always a little shocked when people criticize this film, I always feel like they sat through it and didn't see it .

Screamers is actually kind of cool. I'm still trying to find the full version of the background music in the bar scene...The second one isn't that great.

I must be the only person that enjoyed "Surrogates" , ( No let me change that ) the only person that "Loved" this film.

It's probably because in high school I wrote a very similar story.

After watching this on netflix I really wish I had seen it in the theater, but I had herd it was crap so I didn't go.

If you are looking for new sci-fi that is fun and visually delicious see this film. (y)thumbsup:thumbsup

Try PRIMER, if you can get your head around it you'll find it an outstanding intelligent sci-fi.
Also a lot of people forget that Kubrick's A Clockwork Orange is sci-fi.

A boy and his dog
killer klown from outer space
the last starfighter
the blob (original and the one from the 80s)

I just got netflix streaming and I watched "A boy and his dog" because I saw it posted here.

I had never heard of it before and 30 min. in I thought maybe I had been duped.

I'm very happy that I finished watching it.

Thank you very much for suggesting this film (y)thumbsup:thumbsup

My favs after Star Wars and Blade Runner...

SUNSHINE (Beautiful scenery and an amazing soundtrack)

Donnie Darko (Funny, deep, thought provoking, dark, trippy)

V for Vendetta (Not too Sci-Fi, but a great movie none the less)

District 9 (Slow start up, but great action after the first half)

Robocop (of course)

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (Pay CLOSE attention though)

The Matrix [trilogy] (Wasn't too big on the last one, but they're fun to watch for the action)

Inception (Very cool movie)
