Some great sci movies suggestions

Go old school.

Destination Moon
This Island Earth
When Worlds Collide
The Time Machine
War of the Worlds
2001
Planet of the Apes (1968)
Soylent Green
The Omega Man
Silent Running
Rollerball
The Andromeda Strain
Logan's Run

Nice list.:thumbsup I'd point out that you probably mean the original War of the worlds and Time machine and not the newer ones (though time machine wasn't bad). Earth Vs The Flying saucers
the original The THing
I saw westworld mentioned so you gotta go with the sequel FUture world.
The Omega Man
Last Man on earth (vincent price's version of I Am Legend)
The original rollerball is good.
Sci-fi sorta: The original living dead movies
The original The Crazies (filmed 30 minutes from here)
Night of the comet
If you don't mind really silly and badly acted ones: Damnation Alley
Where Did All the People Go.
The Day After

omega man is charlton heston's version of last man on earth.

i need to get future world. damnit! i should also probably look into kurt russell's thing.

I need to stop buying action figures for one month and i'd be able to get nearly every movie on my list from amazon at once lol.

Cool. most of the stuff i want on amazon is about .75 a movie. Its a shame when shipping is more than the film itself lol. I've gotten a few things off half.com. I try for amazon as sometimes i can score a ton of stuff with the free shipping.

By Dawn's early light is a good one.
these aren't technically sci-fi but since they involve nuclear war i'm including them
Failsafe with Glenn Ford
Dr strangelove
The Beach with Gregory Peck.

One of the best ways to watch Metropolis and understand what happened to this film is to check out the rather poor copy on Youtube.

YouTube - Metropolis

This will give you an idea of how people saw it for nearly 60 years until the first serious restoration attempts. The 2001 version is now orphaned and far less relevant than the 2010 version.

They have teh bad version for free on veoh.com too if you can get the site to work. We need to make a post apocalyptic film thread too lol
2010 is a good film, you can't go wrong with john lithgow and roy schieder.
If you're into animation and 80s rock Rock 'N Rule is a good choice as is Heavy Metal.

I think "Where did all the people go?" is based on panic in year zero as it sounds about the same but with a plague and solar flares instead of nukes.

Its not a movie but Babylon 5 is a must watch series and one of the first to use a story arc.

Actually - there are 5 Babylon 5 movies.

Five Million Years To Earth and the original 1953 Invaders From Mars are also pretty good.

5 million years to earth was just on TCM not to long ago. I wish they'd put out more of the quartermass movies it is part of. I just realized its a Hammer films movie.

Well of the top of my head and trying not to duplicate what is already listed...

Invasion of the Body Snatchers (both 50's & 70's versions)
They Live
Close Encounters
Final Countdown
Capricorn One
Gattaca
The Hidden
Superman the Movie (Reeves)
Sin City
The Omen
Interview with a Vampire

The original Outer Limits TV series is a must too

Doug

A few not mentioned:

Ghost in the Shell Solid State Society (Animated TV Movie) - the TV series too if you want some background before the movie.

Renaissance - Another cool animated cyberpunk movie.

My def of sci fi is robots or spaceships.

Okey....
Cherry 2000
(Man makes love with his sexbot but forgets that she should not get wet, Thus she gets a short circuit and he need to get a New body for her.... Not a easy thing to do when most of the USA is a apocalyptic wasteland and the only factory that made the bodys are situated in the middle of it..)

Isn't that what Goldie Hawn said? :lol
oh snap!

I think "Where did all the people go?" is based on panic in year zero as it sounds about the same but with a plague and solar flares instead of nukes.
when i find more information aobut it, it may just be another addition to my collection

Superman the Movie (Reeves)
Doug
i wanted to add this one, but didnt because i thought it more of a superhero movie, because it set the standard for superhero films for years.

Where did all the people go has peter graves in it. I tried to find a wiki on it for you but there wasn't one. I watched Panic In Year Zero last night, that was a really heavy duty movie the way they handled some subject matter considering when it was made.

totally, i was completely blown away the first time i watched it. it was alot like a visual handbook of what could happen in a nuclear strike. i cant speak highly enough about it, because its just that incredible, especially with the limitations of its time, frankie avalon, and a director in the starring role.
