Hi!
The availabe hardware voice changers have all a mechanical background sound, which works good for technical themed costumes (Star Wars,... ), but is not so suitable for others (without an ComSystem as part of the costume/armor e.g. animals and monsters).
There are several software voice changers on the market. http://www.filebuzz.com/findsoftware/Voice_Changer_Windows_Mobile/1.html So the Idea is to use a small PC (cheap Netbook, Handheld, Palm, UMPC,...) in the costume with a microphone and an amp +speaker. Of course all software voice changers have more delay than hardware voice changers. We don't want a too long delay. It really confuse to hear your voice 0.5 seconds later... :confused
So the most important point is to get a hardware/ PC System with very low latency. So the normal onboard soundboards of Netbooks might not be a good choice (would need an externel, faster soundboard. Could work, but more expensive).
The smaller devices (Handhelds/Palm/Smartphone...) might have a lower latency. Does anyone know it more exactly?
If it works better with those, the next step is to find a voice changer, that is running on that System (Windows mobile, Windows CE,...). For example: http://www.screamingbee.com/product/VoiceTwister.aspx (But it has not so many configuration tools as other software voice changers.)
Did anyone try out this way of voice changing already? Who knows more about the latency of the small devices? Or did anyone test an iPhone voice changer?
Toby
