SO YOU WANT TO MAKE/BUY A PREDATOR SUIT? READ THIS!!!!!!

I think the important thing to remember is, whether you are a newbie, or a well seasoned Predator enthusiast, we all have a common interest in Predators, be it constructing an outfit, or some Predator related item. I will help anyone who needs info if I can provide it to them. I'm still learning things, and I am in for the long term.. But there is a starting point, and once started, this definitely becomes addictive. Nothing is ever perfect, therefore, I will always be improving on my own work.

Newbies, may be thinking in the short term sense at some point, about costumes for Halloween for example, but that does not mean it will not change in the future. I know that I started that way, and two years later.. well I'm seeing what I want to construct, and will strive to achieve that. The roadmap is in front of me, now I just have to commit. And I see from so many excellent outfits, that you definitely do get out of it.. what you put into it. So I think I have a fairly good understanding of it all. Now I am at the next step, I know what kind of commitment I am looking at, and I plan on going forward. It will be expensive, but well worth it.

I am so glad that this site offers so much info on Predators, speaking for the newbies... it is most appreciated.

Hey everyone! I just been sitting here reading all your comments and I wanted to say, Even as a newbie I can see where you are all coming from with the arrogance of some indivisuals who dont take the time to really understand and appreciate what this site is about.
I been a member only about a month, I found this site while trying to find a predator costume better then the ones they sell at buycostumes .com and such other sites. At first I didnt think I was gonna join, Just looking for a place to buy. I poked around reading some of the forums, looking at pictures and stuff in the trophy room. After seeing so many members pulling their resources together here on the lair, and making such great suits and props I decided to become a member and learn some of the crafts and arts displayed through out. I always have been considered a artistic person as I've always been into drawing , Ive done some painting and I've done some scuplting with clay years ago, but This site and the people who are really invovled with it have inspired me to get back into these things and try and master them as I feel alot of you have.

Much repect for all of you who have made this site what it is, and do the things you do!

Ok, I'm guilty. I made the newb mistake of posting in the buy/sell section well before doing enough research. Call it the little kid in me, or over-excitement, but up until I found this site I had been searching for a place to find quality suits made by people who care and have an eye for attention to detail. After being flamed a little(well deserved) for my pre-mature post I took some sound advice and continued to read and research, so I do appreciate it.

I wish I shared half the talent that I've seen displayed on this site. I however do not have the artistic ability to even try and mimic some of the bio helmets, and you can forget about painting...I don't even paint models, I go as far as assembly and maybe a base primer coat.

Figured it was my time to post and say thanks for the site, you've opened my eyes to a lot, and I will continue reading.

Just wanted to add couple pennies here, there is alot work of pertaining to the contrsuction of a suit or painting, but one of the great aspects of this community is there is an numerous number of artists here that have done SPFX work.

I myself took on the construction of and repaint of a pred suit, and was really happy with the outcome

so in retrospect never downgrade yourself practice and gain knowledge failure is only the path to perfection ;)

I also am fairly new to this site i should've signed o years ago when i found it. I have found this site extreamly helpful I am a full on pred fan i have spent over 5,000 on pred stuff an i am now over 2 years on my costume i have no illusions about cost of things and i am a very skilled artist and i own a sucessful printing company and i am sure i will be a great addition to the lair. and if anyone needs help or advise just let me know . I did not sign on here to sell off stuff i came to build my suit and share my passion for the preds. I believe noobs will come and go but the true hunters will always be here.

This really helps a lot. thanks for taking the time to put it together for us newbies=)

I agree, the info is very helpful. My only artistic talent is drawing and painting; canvas only. So in the future I may be able to purchase a suit, so for now I'm grateful to be a member, able to see progress on different suits and such. :)

Another newb here. there are a ton of talented artist here, and that both garners respect from me and inspires me. it's nice to be in a place that is just as passionate about the hunter craft as I am. Also, I understand that if building a full suit could be achieved in a few weeks then I'm doing it wrong

As a noob, I have to say this post is very informative, but aimed mostly at the wrong audience. I myself am one of the dreaded Halloween folk who discovered this site while looking up info for making my costume. I've been working on my costume since the end of August, and I will be spending about $400 bucks on it give or take. Now maybe it's just me, but I didn't join this forum expecting to have an amazing suit like many of you do. My goal was to have a passable Predator costume for a Halloween Party I'm going to. It doesn't need to be perfect, and it doesn't even have to survive the night. Now maybe some of the noobs on here are expecting to make top notch suits in just 2 months, and if they do, they are crazy. But I'm willing to bet that most of the Halloween noobs are just looking for tips to make a passable costume for Halloween.

So far on this site I have found a ton of great tips for my costume. For starters, I had no idea what I was going to make the dreadlocks out of. This site provided me with the answer. Caulk saver foam. It never would have occurred to me. Thanks to this site, I've already got my dreads well under construction. I was also struggling to find good images of the armor to work with. Again, this site saved the day by not only having many, many shots of Predator armor, but I even found cutting patterns and such for armor construction. Now as I said, I will be taking the easy route. My armor will involve cut and shaped plastic plates, riveted, glued, and sewed to some old football pads. Now will that look amazing? Probably not. But I bet with a little work I can end up with "decent". In the end, my costume will look better than most Halloween costumes, and it will have been home made, which is the fun part.

I know that for most of you, this site and hobby are a year round event. I understand that having an influx of people with similar taste, but not the same conviction, must be frustrating. However don't view us Halloween Noobs as a burden, instead view us and an audience to astound with your works and as students to teach some of your secrets to. Having spent large amounts of time and money on your suits, you can easily inform us noobs of what works and what doesn't. You can tell us what the fast and cheap methods are, and what the best and most accurate methods are. Let us decide what level of quality we require for our projects. Don't shun us, help us. The Halloween Noob of today may just be the Predator obsessed fan of tomorrow.

Very well said =3 I joined both for my fascination of the predators and the costumes people have made, and to learn to make my own. I dont expect a top notch one in just a few months, but Id love to make a costume that would last a while, Im sure Id wear mine often, and not always for specal occasions, sometimes just for the heck of it XD I hope I can make one sometime, and with me likely starting college soon, I may be able to use money from student loans that I save up to buy materials and such that I need. So yeah, anyone willing to give me some tips will be greatly appreciated, I will do some searching around as well.

It would be a dream of my life (43 years) to wear a complete outfit and perfect for P1, but unfortunately reality is my "lowercase" :D :)

Well I'm just happy to see that this isn't a inquisition against us noobs. I've found the site really helpful so far, even for my simple costume.

Now, does anyone know where I can get a Bio Mask on the cheap?

Kidding! I'm kidding!

I've already decided (well my FUNDS have decided) that I will be getting a crappy "costume store" Bio mask.

This one in fact http://www.kingofswords.com/images/AlienVs...askOfThePre.jpg

Not very pretty, but I think with a little modding and a repaint, I can make something decent out of it. Thankfully I have a huge supply of a variety of screens to make the eye screen from. I used to repair screen doors/windows. Decent money :)

I bought this not to long ago and it's a bit small but if u find the celtic one out there it's got a better size yet doesn't stay on as well

I just want a nice mask with nice dreads for under $100!! Is that possible? And how do you guys have those pics of predators at the bottom of your post? there cool and i would like 1. Thanks

Nice masks unpainted cost more than $100. Nice dreads also cost more than $100. Having "nice" mask and dreads both for a total of $100 is not really heard of.

The only way ull be able to do tht is if you try and make it yourself and make it pretty cheap. I bought 2 masks from green earth (1st = 45$ and the 2nd was 55$) and for dreads im using backer rod tht im forming into dreads. U can find most of this stuff at your local hardware store. Ive been looking around on the Lair and there is some great ideas from everyone. Im posting my stuff up soon when I get back from my mil. course
