So, who else is working on a Crystal Skull?

Apart from the inaccuracies, according to discussions over at the Indy Lounge thats a recast of the ones that were available a few months ago by a member there offered in 'bone coloured resin'.
This then showed up claiming to be some school project or some BS and looks to be a poor recast, the seller has sold dozens of them already claiming he's only made this one and you'll be the only one to own it cause he wont make more :thumbsdown Very poor form

now granted this is just some toy product, i believe its a product comp and is made with a real prop photo, this pic shows the jaw opened, lending some credit to the jaw as a second piece theory.

UNCLE MILTON is going to release a dia projector

Not a good side view, but it seems that it looks accurate.. just smaller.

Hmmm I was wondering about the size of that when I heard about it. Looks like it's going to be around 13.97cm x 26.03cm x 15.24cm Not bad for $40

well thats also a hugely underscaled miniature, but i know the original crystal skull this is based on has a removable jaw.
What do you mean "the original" skull? The Mitchell-Hedges skull? As far as I know, the movie skull isn't based on anything.. especially as it's not a human skull. All the skulls found in real life have been based on humans, including the Mitchell-Hedges skull (which does indeed have a removable jaw).

I've seen no indication that the one in the film has a removable jaw, simply because it would make it difficult to move around.. strictly from a filmmaking perspective, I'd want it to be made in one piece.

I think with "original" he means the screen-used "hero" one.
Also one of the "real" (not "original") crystal skulls has a movable jaw.

from the second page: The "ET" skull. This one doesnt have the separate jaw piece, but the Mitchell Hedges skull is the most widely known for the myth and legend the new story is based around. And the Mitchell Hedges skull is two pieces.

And by removable i meant its probably 2 pieces, probably attached, but probably 2 pieces, especially if its supposed to be a real skull.

so was it just me or did anyone else think it looked like it was hollow cast and then filled with a bunch of crumbled up seran rap :lol

it was also about twice as big as i expected it to be. And although the inside looked like wrinkled plastic wra, it looked in a few shots like there was some gold or brown core inside there, really hard to tell with the light reflecting special fx they put on it occationally. Jaw was definetly open, but secured.

I just really bet that thing was hollowcast and filled with plastic wrap, some shots they were holidn git up with one hand, it had to be light.

I am guessing, but it looks to be around 16 to 20" long....right the jaw was open about 3/4 of an inch and the jaw was attached as I suspected due to all the running around. I am also in agreement it was hollow because of when they were holding it, it would be hard to handle it with ease.

Here we go...

For film bashing head over to the OT section.

As for the skull, I was a little disappointed. I didn't expect to be so large and to be honest I didn't think it was as convincing at such a scale.

That being said, and since I'm complaining, I might as well make a contribution. It looked to be of hollow construction and filled with some crumpled plastic that has an iridescent/pearl quality. I also noticed some tinting near the teeth giving it an almost metallic look in the lighting. The jaw while probably a separate part was fixed not quite closed all of the way.

I just got back from the movie, and that's exactly what I was thinking! :lol

Slush cast the skull about 3/8" thick, then cram cellophane up through the foramen magnum. Also, if you wanted to show off a little, shove a string of those desktop Christmas tree lights up in the middle of it all. :)

I was thinking it looked more along the lines of Iridescent Cellophane.

Yeah! :eek That would look clear for the most part, but give some nice color shifts as you moved it around too!

Good idea! :):thumbsup
