Snowtrooper Help? Where do I start

Ever since I saw the Snowtroopers storm in the rebel base and run past Vader, I've been interested in wanting to be one. So I have been researching and a Snowtrooper isn't as common as the Stormtroopers. So where do I start?

Here's my plan: I have been looking at the unfinished kit that Studio Creations offers and that seems like a decent price. A friend of a friend can more then likely paint the armor to a shiny finish since he has experience on painting motor bikes.

But I need to get the rest of the parts such as the coat, boots, greeblies and who do I get in touch with to get them. I am trying to tally up costs as well, so average prices would be helpful. Also, some greeblie pics and their names are good for me since I don't know any names of anything yet.

Who do I start talking to in starting this process? If I can't assemble it myself, anyone I can talk to? Anyone have a list of painters or people who can assemble the armor?
Any do it yourself guides for assembly. I Have a friend interested in doing a scout, so I am trying to find a list for the both of us.

What material consists the armor? What type of paint will work well with it?
I have alot of questions, so thanks for your time. I hope to finish this project by either Comic Con or by Fall of 07.

Join up with the blizzard force forums and we can give you all the info you need. Fortunatly in the last few years a variety of suits have become available. None are completely accurate but some are definitly better than others.

Joined up, waiting to get approved. So who offers kits for sale and which ones are accurate? Is there a list of the usual materials for armor? Like what is vac-formed, ABS, etc?

I wish I had kept a compiled folder of all of the pictures of snowtrooper armor that I've seen so far. I know I have quite a few pictures, but I dont think they are labelled for the source of each style of armor. The only snowtrooper armor worth getting (in my opinion) is the Dan Laws kit. Everything else looks way off to me. His kit is styrene, properly proportioned, and could pass for the real deal. To me, the other kits have undersized shoulder armor, strange looking helmets, and lack so many details. I have an address somewhere for the person who made my duster too, if you need that. I got my coveralls for underneath from an online site. I can get that as well if you like. I'm still looking for the proper vinyl shroud material for the facemask.

Josh,

Do you have any pics of your duster and a price? There is a lady on blizzard force that makes them. They look pretty good.

I can take some pics of my duster. I think mine was about $150. I found the email to the guy who had mine made. I think he had a girl do it though. He made reference to someone else. I dont want to post his email in case he might mind but I can give it to you guys in PMs.

Studiocreations is good for a general overview of the armor but there are a number of inaccuracies with their suit. It has a bit of "Magic of Myth" syndrome in that it copies the details seen on the MoM armor which has suffered some damage over the years. Most notably is the 3 buttons on the chestplate, they should all be red. The MoM suit had the center LED button cover fall off so the white cover snap is showing. It's one of the most common mistakes people make and the one that pushes my buttons (no pun intended :D ) the most.

I hear ya. I try to use all the avaiable tutorials as a start to build costumes or props, but before you finish anything, you really need to review the source (the actual movies.) to nail down the details.

Thanks for the info everyone. Got into BlizzardForums, can't wait to work on it. I will have more questions once I drop some cash on the armour, then the fun really begins. Well, more frustration since this will be the first time I put something like this together.

Which would be a good start, hard or soft parts? Right now, since its Winter, Ive been going around some stores looking for the right pants. I was thinking sweat pants, but I wanted something more durable so I'm browsing the right pair of jeans. Should I focus on getting all the soft goods so I have a base to start with for when I need to make the armor fit onto the costume? Or Should I focus on armor first?

I was watching the movie last night and I wanted to incorporate the nice clean look of the Snow Commander, but there was a Snowtrooper Variant at Con this year (or last year) that had his whole costume white, so I did want to tone down that much white.

I want the Duster to be an off white so it at least gives me a two tone color in my costume and the armor parts to be off-white as well so it doesnt blend in to my pants.

What do you guys think?
