SNG studios Daily video

Good progress on the "Martians Attack SNG" puppet. I got all the mechanics finalized on the head. All cable laid in and function. I was able to glue with silicon the different movement points of the under skull to the skin. However the surfaces were rough enough to stick to the skin just enough to move the lips and open and close the jaw or mouth just with friction. As was so pleased because when glued it will only move that much better.
I got the teeth and mouth finished complete with a tong. Next up is to attack the skim to the under skull and close it up. Can't wait.
These two pictures show the difference between neutral and the open mouth and lips moving.
Steve

I made this film starting back in 2008. The original story was written by me and the wonderful screen play by Gillian Neill. She worked so hard on this movie with me and our family friends. We used only consumer cameras.
All the CGI and composites I did as well as the editing. The movie was finished about 2010. Soon after that Gilly started her battle with cancer and I forgot all about the film. She loved it so much and it was one of the last creative projects she did. I thought it was high time that I released it for free to the public to enjoy. She would have wanted this.
Another version will come out later this year with a dedication to her.
Few people watched this movie. Despite all the trailers and postings about what Foo fighters actually are people believed it had something to do with a band and not UFOs.
The term foo fighter was used by Allied aircraft pilots in World War II to describe various UFOs or mysterious aerial phenomena seen in the skies over both the European andPacific theaters of operations. Look it up on Google. It has nothing to do with a band and if you know your history you will know this is true.
Enjoy the film and remember Gilly as the talented and gifted writer she was and that few of you are even aware of. She put in a lot of time with me in the film industry and was a talented professional in every respect.
Enjoy.

Thanks to my friend Jeff McCan for hosting this on his server.

A lot more done on the Martian today. Richard I took your tip and used the Velcro. Tomorrow the silicone should be dry and I can test the attachments. While all this is drying I worked on the Martian ship all day and made a plug, vacuumed formed the engine dome and lite it up. I documented all this for next weeks SNG video.
So here are some pictures for those of you that don't watch the videos. The RGB LEDs turn all different colors which you can see in the pictures. Thus so many. Really try watching the video I'm about to post...;) There's still a lot left to do but it's getting there and I will be shooting effects shots next week with the ship.

The Martian puppet is all rigged and working. A full face movement study will be shot tomorrow for our weekly SNG show. I've started on the costume part of the build finally. Over the next week you will see the puppet completed. Shortly after that we start shooting effects shots with it. I do have to make his gun too. More as we go and a real selfie from the IPhone is uploading. Stay tuned Space fans!

This Martian is really coming along. The torso life support system is blocked out but no gauges or lights yet...but just wait. You know me.
Massed out all of the body shape that goes under the space suit so Mary can start her magic next. The gaffers tape over the foam helps the fabric space suit side over the foam. I still have to start the helmet next week. But I'm really starting to see this guy now.
If you watch the SNG weekly show we are loading tonight you can see his face move. More tomorrow.

Today I tackled the helmet. How to do it and do it in one day? Simple. Some aluminium wire, bend a helmet shape around the head. Make a pattern and sculpt in clay the form in one half. Make an alginate mold. Pour it in Ultra Cal 30 and vacuum form it in clear. And that's what I did. I just taped it together for a look. It needs a collar and interior brace and a few other things but it off to a good start. more next week.
