Smooth-Ons "Molding and Casting a Star Trek Klingon Disruptor" tutorial

Nice tutorial (y)thumbsup:thumbsup

I'm surprised they used those words. I thought using words like that only brought trouble. Maybe they found a loop hole?

Boy, that's really just hanging out there waiting for CBS to find.

And I'm sure there is no loop hole.

Really it is ok to state a fact.....thats all they are doing, not selling anything!! now if you are selling and telling.....then look out!:eek

Figures they would do a block mold instead of a 2 part shell mold that would use 10% of the amount of rubber.

They make the thing with a display base and plaque and say it can sell hundereds. It's not as if this is a presentation to a company that is considering buying the Star Trek license, this is open for the public to see. If you already own the license for Star Trek props you don't need to be sold on the idea for making the props.

Encouraging the block mold technique uses more rubber which means you order more rubber from them. Now they do have the brush on stuff on another page where you can pour plaster over the layer of rubber. One this tutorial it would have been nice to include a list of other mold making techniques that would also work.

From personal experience... I often do a block just for speed... if you use their OOMOO stuff you can do a 2 part block mold in pretty short order. Not the best rubber or the best way to do it, but fast. And sometimes that's more important than durability or saving money.

That being said, I'm in the process of replacing my blocks with brush on / plaster pairs.
